Why the Cruise Line?

Carnival keeps things simple: good food, plenty of entertainment, and a relaxed vibe. No need for tuxedos or fancy dress codes. You just turn up, unwind, and enjoy the ride.

The ships are big on fun, whether that means grabbing a burger, catching a comedy show, or just kicking back on deck with a drink in hand. If you’re after a cruise that’s easygoing but still packed with things to do, this is it.

For Aussie travellers, it’s also one of the easiest options, with cruises from Sydney and Brisbane heading to New Zealand, the South Pacific, and beyond. No long flights, no hassle—just hop on board and let the holiday take care of itself.

At Glance [accommodation Type, Destination/Ports]

Accommodation

Carnival keeps things straightforward when it comes to cabins—comfortable, well-designed, and with enough variety to suit every traveller. Whether you just need a place to sleep between all the fun or want a private balcony to soak up the ocean views, there’s an option for you.

  • Interior cabins are the most budget-friendly. No windows, but you’re not spending much time inside anyway. They’re cozy, well-lit, and perfect for getting a good night’s sleep.
  • Ocean view cabins let in natural light with a porthole or window—great if you like to wake up to a bit of daylight.
  • Balcony cabins give you your own outdoor space, so you can start the morning with coffee and sea views or just enjoy the fresh air anytime you like.
  • Suites are the most spacious option, with extra perks like priority boarding, bigger bathrooms, and more room to spread out.

Carnival also offers a few themed cabin options. Family Harbor staterooms come with extra space and access to a special lounge just for families. If you’re after something a little more relaxing, Cloud 9 Spa cabins give you priority access to the onboard spa, plus some wellness-focused amenities.

Carnival Cruise Line Destinations

Carnival makes it easy to explore some of the best spots in the South Pacific, Australia, and beyond. Whether you’re after a tropical island escape or a short getaway close to home, there’s a cruise for you.

For those who prefer to stay closer to home, Carnival’s coastal cruises take you to some of Australia’s best waterfront destinations. Airlie Beach is the perfect jumping-off point for the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef, with plenty of opportunities for snorkelling and sailing. Moreton Island, just off the coast of Brisbane, is famous for its shipwrecks, sand dunes, and laid-back atmosphere. Hobart, on the other hand, offers a mix of history, great food, and stunning scenery, making it a great stop for anyone wanting to experience a different side of Australia.

If you don’t have time for a long holiday, Carnival’s short cruises from Sydney and Brisbane are the perfect escape. These two- to four-day trips are all about kicking back and enjoying the best parts of cruising without the big commitment.

If white-sand beaches, clear blue water, and island time sound like your kind of holiday, the South Pacific cruises are a great choice. Ships sail to places like Vanuatu, where you can snorkel in crystal-clear lagoons and explore lush rainforests. New Caledonia offers a unique blend of French and island culture, with stunning beaches and incredible food. Fiji is another favourite, known for its warm hospitality and some of the best coral reefs in the world.

What Included

When you book a Carnival cruise, you're getting more than just a ticket to some amazing destinations. Here's what's typically covered in your fare:

  • Accommodation: Your stateroom is your home away from home, whether it's an interior room or a suite with a view.
  • Meals: Heaps of dining options are included. Think main dining rooms, casual eateries, and 24-hour pizza for those late-night cravings.
  • Entertainment: From live shows and comedy acts to poolside movies and deck parties, there's always something happening.
  • Activities: Join in trivia sessions, fitness classes, or just relax by the pool. There's plenty to keep you busy or help you unwind.
  • Kids' Programs: Got the family in tow? The little ones and teens have their own supervised clubs to keep them entertained.

While many things are included, some extras like specialty dining, shore excursions, and spa treatments might cost a bit more.

Cruise Line Packages

Carnival gives you everything you need for a great time at sea, but if you want to make life a little easier (or a little more fun), there are a few extras to consider.

The CHEERS! package covers a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks for a daily rate, so you’re not thinking about the bar tab every time you order. If you’re more into soft drinks, the Bottomless Bubbles package gives you unlimited soda and juice.

Wi-Fi packages are available if you want to stay connected, with different options depending on whether you’re just checking messages or planning to stream. Shore excursions can also be booked in advance, so if you know you want to snorkel in Vanuatu or explore Hobart, you can lock it in early.

There are a few other ways to upgrade your trip, like specialty dining at steakhouses and teppanyaki spots, spa packages for a bit of extra relaxation, or Faster to the Fun (FTTF) if you’d rather skip the lines and board quicker.

None of these are essential, but if you like the idea of cruising with a few extra perks, they’re worth checking out.

Dining Experiences

Food is a big deal on a Carnival cruise—you won’t go hungry, that’s for sure. Whether you’re after a quick bite between activities or a sit-down meal with all the works, there’s plenty to choose from.

What’s Included

You don’t have to spend extra to eat well on Carnival. There are plenty of free dining options, from full-service meals in the main dining room to casual eats you can grab on the go.

  • The Dining Room – Classic multi-course meals with a changing menu every night.
  • Guy’s Burger Joint – Big, juicy burgers created by chef Guy Fieri. Simple, messy, and always a hit.
  • Pizzeria del Capitano / Pizza Pirate – Fresh, hand-tossed pizza served 24/7, because pizza cravings don’t check the time.
  • Lido Marketplace – Buffet-style dining with a mix of global flavours, comfort food, and desserts.
  • BlueIguana Cantina – Tacos and burritos made fresh, perfect for a quick, no-fuss meal.
  • Seaday Brunch – A lazy brunch option available on sea days, with everything from pancakes to steak and eggs.
  • The Deli – Sandwiches, wraps, and light snacks when you just want something simple.
  • Swirls – Unlimited soft-serve ice cream and frozen yogurt, free all day, every day.

Specialty Dining (For a Little Extra)

If you feel like mixing things up, Carnival has a few paid dining options worth checking out.

  • Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse – A proper steakhouse experience with premium cuts, seafood, and great sides.
  • Seafood Shack – Fish and chips, lobster rolls, and seafood baskets for when you’re craving something from the sea.
  • Bonsai Sushi Express – Quick-service sushi with fresh rolls and sashimi.
  • Bonsai Teppanyaki – A Japanese teppanyaki grill where the chefs put on a show while cooking your meal.

Cabins Experiences

Carnival’s cabins will give you a comfy, functional space to relax between all the action. The beds are soft, the layouts are practical, and there’s plenty of storage so you don’t feel like you’re living out of a suitcase. Even the smaller cabins are designed to make the most of the space, with smart touches like under-bed storage and adjustable lighting.

If you’re staying in a balcony cabin or suite, you get a bit more room to spread out, plus private outdoor space where you can enjoy the view without having to fight for a deck chair. Suites also come with priority check-in, larger bathrooms, and extra lounge areas, making them a solid choice if you like a bit of extra comfort.

Noise levels can vary depending on the location of your cabin. If you’re a light sleeper, it’s worth checking the deck plan to avoid being right under a nightclub or pool deck—though Carnival ships tend to be lively no matter where you are.

Overall, the cabin experience is exactly what you’d expect from Carnival. It's laid-back, it's practical, and designed for fun-first cruising. You won’t find marble bathtubs or chandeliers, but you will get a comfortable place to recharge before heading back out to enjoy the ship.

Popular Fleets

Carnival Cruise Line Australia will operate three ships in the 2025 season, sailing from Sydney and Brisbane to destinations across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

Carnival Splendor has been based in Sydney since 2019 and runs year-round cruises to places like New Zealand, Fiji, and the Great Barrier Reef. It’s one of Carnival’s larger ships, packed with waterslides, live entertainment, and plenty of dining options.

Carnival Luminosa joined the fleet in 2022 and operates seasonally from Brisbane. Originally a Costa Cruises ship, it has a slightly different style from other Carnival ships but still offers the same fun, relaxed atmosphere. It typically sails between November and April before repositioning for the Northern Hemisphere’s summer season.

Carnival Encounter will be Carnival’s newest addition in 2025, taking over from P&O’s Pacific Encounter. Homeported in Brisbane year-round, this ship will expand Carnival’s Australian offerings, with plenty of dining, entertainment, and family-friendly activities onboard.

With these three ships covering short getaways and longer island adventures, there’s something for every kind of Aussie cruiser.

Loyalty Programs

At Gold (after 25 cruise nights), you’ll get a special pin, and by Platinum (75 nights), you unlock priority boarding, a free drink at Sea Day brunch, and a few other handy perks. Diamond level (200+ nights) is where you get the real VIP treatment, including unlimited laundry and exclusive events.

It’s a nice bonus if you cruise often, and since there’s nothing extra to join, it’s worth keeping track of your points.
