Silversea has officially named Silver Nova, described as “the most environmentally conscious ultra-luxury ship ever built”.

The 728-guest vessel will call Australia home for four months of 2024-5 season, sailing between Sydney, Melbourne New Zealand and Singapore.

In a Fort Lauderdale ceremony the line welcomed the ‘Ship of Light’ to its fleet. Her innovative design, which incorporates an unprecedented 4,000m2 of glass, immerses guests into the destination from virtually all venues and suites.

The pool deck, which overlooks the water on her starboard side, and all-new outdoor venues — the Dusk Bar and the Marquee — are good examples of her unique openness to the destination.

Silver Nova has a space-to-guest ratio of 75 GRT-per-guest — the highest in Silversea’s fleet. She offers one of the most personalized levels of service at sea with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.3, including butler service for all suites.

The naming ceremony, with Nina Compton, a well known New Orleans chef and restaurant owner as godmother, featured bagpipes and an exclusive screening of a commemorative video to honour Silversea’s 30th anniversary.

Barbara Muckermann, President of Silversea, and Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, addressed the audience.

“It is fitting that we officially named Silver Nova – a truly pioneering ship – in the same year Silversea celebrates its 30th anniversary: the ship connects our history with our tomorrow, striking a perfect balance between our Brand’s refined heritage and the future of ultra-luxury cruise travel,” said Muckermann.

Silver Nova departed on her maiden voyage from Venice on August 14, 2023. Following her Naming Ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, she now undertakes her first Grand Voyage, the Grand Voyage South America 2024, during which she will circumnavigate the continent, calling in 38 destinations in 18 countries over 71 days.
