Footage has emerged of a Costa Cruises ship narrowly missing a yacht and some smaller boats while it was manoeuvring into Veniceโs Giudecca Canal.
In a YouTube video uploaded on Jul 7, the Costa Deliziosa is battered by rain and hail, while sounding its emergency horn as tug boats work quickly to straighten out the vessel.
A spokesperson from Costa Deliziosa toldย Nine ย the close-call was a result of โviolent gusts that caused a detour during the passage in the Giudecca Canal.โ
“The Commander has always maintained control of the ship even in conditions of extreme and sudden difficulty. The ship has resumed its course towards the planned destination”.
The incident comes just a month after the MSC Opera collided with a Uniworld ship, which has sparked fresh calls by Veniceโs mayor to find an alternative to the busy canal.
