Man with cardiac condition winched off a cruise ship in Queensland

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew has winched a man with a cardiac condition off a cruise ship yesterday. The rescue took place about 30 nautical miles north of K’gari, formerly known as Fraser Island, which is a World Heritage-listed sand island.

The LifeFlight critical care doctor, rescue crew officer and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic were winched down to the ship. The team then winched back to the helicopter with the patient, who was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The man in his 60s, suffered a cardiac episode on board and was initially treated by the ship’s medical team.

The cruise ship was sailing from Singapore to Brisbane.

  1. So greatful to the medical team on the qauntum of the seas. They were so quick to respond . Also big thank you to the sunshine coast memorial hospica impecable service . We are back in nz now my husband is doing very well . He has had a stent put in and no damage to his heart . After a massive heart attack we are so greatfull .
