The newest Disney cruise ship, Disney Treasure, has pulled off a heroic rescue of four people who issued a distress call due to their sinking 50-foot catamaran 230 miles off the coast of Bermuda.

The small boat was flooding rapidly, which led to the panicked passengers onboard to launch a distress call to the US Coast Guard. In turn, the US Coast issued its own emergency warning; Disney Treasure happened to be the closest ship.

The Disney vessel was able to launch a smaller boat at the scene and rescue all four of the distressed passengers.

ABC News reports that the catamaran had on a failure on its seal. The USA coast guard says that the problem with the seal lead a gasket being blown, this then resulted in water rapidly leaking into the boat, and the small vessel was soon at the mercy of the sea.

Disney Treasure is yet to even sail its maiden itinerary, making this rescue an epic introduction to the world. The ship was on its way from the Netherlands to Port Canaveral, where it will homeport.

Disney Treasure Captain Marco Nogara told ABC News: “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril.

“Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skilfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety.”

The incident took within the infamous ‘Bermuda Triangle’, located between Bermuda, Florida and Puerto Rico.

The US Coast Guard provided aerial support throughout the operation. Aerial support is a critical element of operations like these, with cruise ships often being guided and aided by helicopters and military aircrafts when rescues need to be performed.

“They were really way out there to sea and and they were in distress, and they were having some trouble trying to keep the water from coming in,” described U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Mike Rauch.

“We were very grateful for [Disney] to change their course and head up to help these people.”

All four passengers are currently safe and in stable condition with no medical issues reported.
