Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas has left its nest at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Naizaire to begin its first test sailings. 

Wonder of the Seas is set to become the largest cruise ship in the world, accommodating 6800 passengers and 2400 crew. She’s an astonishing 362 metres in length, 66 metres wide and clocks a sturdy 230,000 tons on the scales. 

She’s the fifth ship to join the Oasis Class of Royal Caribbean’s fleet and is a huge upgrade in size, with more than 100 extra cabins compared to Symphony of the Seas.

Wonder of the Seas debut was meant to happen this year before the pesky pandemic got in the way, but she’s on schedule for a 2022 debut. Over the coming weeks and months the shipyard will be testing her speed, fuel consumption, noise levels, vibration measurements and stability to ensure she’s up to par to start taking passengers.

Wonder of the Seas is packed with attractions, such as Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea, the glitz and glamour of the AquaTheater and a range of fine dining options. 

The vessel is set to explore all the best of Asia, with Shanghai and Hong Kong starting itineraries planned to take passengers to discover destinations across the continent. 

Some of the planned itineraries include an early 2023 Hong Kong to Okinawa and Ishigaki five-night cruise that will include snorkelling in gentle bays, learning the regions rich history and kayaking through the Nagura Anparu Wetland.
