While travelling with your family, significant other or friends is always a magical experience, sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way.

Maybe your dream travel destinations don’t align with your loved ones, maybe your schedules are conflicting, maybe you want your solo explorer moment. Whatever the reason, setting off across the world with nothing but yourself and a suitcase is never a bad decision and Hurtigruten Expeditions is celebrating the solo traveller.

Hurtigruten has waived their single supplement on select departures across Antarctica, Norway, Svalbard and more, meaning you live out your solo dreams without paying the price for it.

Cruising solo has always been a point of difficulty with prices designed for two people but if you’ve been looking for a small ship journey, now you can do that without worrying about tracking down a travel companion.

The savings are huge, on an Antarctica and Patagonia 18-day expedition, prices are down from $20,331 to $14,255, on a 15-day Norway Summer expedition cruise from Hamburg, prices have been cut from $7498 to $5998 and on an 11-day Fjords Expedition Cruise from Dover, prices drop from $5454 to $4954.

The offer is available to a huge range of itineraries that you can check out and book here, with just a few of the highlights below.

Itineraries

Antarctica

There are huge savings available for Antarctica sailings with up to around 30% off on Antarctica and Patagonia expeditions and 28% on Antarctica and Falklands expeditions.

Antarctica and Patagonia expeditions aboard MS Fridtjof Nansen will take you through the unspoiled glacial wonders of Patagonia before sailing to the Antarctic peninsula.

You’ll see the colourful neighbourhoods of Chilote, navigate through the isolated villages of Patagonia and see the wildlife and geological anomalies of Torres Del Paine national park.

Expect to get up close and personal with the fjords of Chile, whether by foot or small explorer boats, before circumventing the wild and windy cliffs of Cape Horn.

Then comes the highlight as you enjoy the unspoiled wonders of Antarctica. Look forward to whales, penguins and seals enjoying the brisk waters. You’ll have an expert team that will take you to landing spots for the best viewing of the otherworldly icy continent.

Optional activities such as snowshoeing and kayaking among icebergs are offered and you can participate in citizen science onboard and learn about the biodiversity of the area.

If you rather opt for Antarctica and Falklands on MS Roald Amundsen, you’ll get all the magic of Antarctica as well. But rather than sailing through Patagonia, you’ll trade glacial peaks for rolling green hills of the Falkland Islands. You’ll find a slice of English countryside living and beaches with sand as white as anywhere in the world. Not to mention, colonies of penguins and seals aplenty.

Svalbard

Svalbard sits between Norway and the North Pole and on your journey, you can expect to come across proud-standing glaciers, snow-drenched mountain ranges and even enjoy some socially-distanced viewing of the local polar bears.

Hurtigruten runs six day cruises on MS Nordstjernen that are focused around Spitsbergen, the only populated island of Svalbard and polar bear spotting, with plenty inbetween.

Booking solo right now can shave more than $1000 off your cruise. For example, booking a ‘Spitsbergen and Polar Bears – an Arctic Adventure (Wednesday to Monday) cruise right now as a solo traveller, you can sail for $2535.

You’ll learn the history of the area at the Svalbard museum and explore the rest of the town, keeping an eye out for wandering reindeer, foxes and grouse. You can even grab some Russian nesting dolls to mix up your souvenir game.

Then you’ll be taken completely off grid to Magdalenefjord before scanning for polar bears exploring and walruses scrambling to the shore in Liefdefjorden.

If the tongue twisters weren’t already enough, next you’ll move on Kongsfjorden where you can hike through the grassy tundra, observe endless bird species and look-over the postcard worthy mountains.
