German cruise line Hapag-Lloyd will expand into Australia and the Asia Pacific, with Europa 2 sailing local waters in 2027 and Hanseatic Spirit debuting in the Kimberley in 2028. The 230-passenger expedition ship will offer an 18-day voyage through iconic sites like King George River and Montgomery Reef, before continuing to Indonesia’s Raja Ampat.

German line Hapag-Lloyd sends its first ship to the Kimberley in 2028.

The 230-passenger Hanseatic Spirit will sail her maiden voyage in the Kimberley offering an 18-day expedition which will visit the famed King Georges River, Montgomery Reef and the Houtman Abrolhos Island off the West Australian coast near Geraldton.

Hanseatic Spirit will head to Australia after her Antarctic season which ends in February 2028.

Hapag-Lloyd will also expand its presence in Asia Pacific with Hanseatic Spirit offering sailings to Indonesia’s Raja Ampat.

The foray into the Kimberley comes as the German cruise line expands in Australia with the luxury Europa 2 due to sail in our local waters in 2027. The 516-passenger ship will offer cruises on Australia’s Western and Southern coastlines with calls in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney. She will then head to New Zealand and French Polynesia.
