- Virgin Voyages has offered a brand new annual pass – a pass that offers a year of unlimited access to all ships and itineraries.
- It starts at USD$120,000 (AUD$186,800) before fees.
- If you booked today, you would have to cruise approximately 236 days of the year to get your money’s worth.
Virgin Voyages has introduced a whole new way to think about cruising. While you’ll still be able to book with a traditional cruise fare, cruisers will now also have the option of purchasing an annual pass, where you can sail as much as you want with Virgin across any itinerary.
It’s as simple as purchasing the pass and then you can cruise across ships and any itineraries in the Virgin fleet.
The first question that comes to mind is probably one of price, and the annual pass won’t come cheap. It comes out to $186,800 (USD$120,000) per couple, for the year, which comes out $511 per day.
However, the offering is tailored towards luxury, as guests with the annual pass will stay in ‘Sea Terrace’ cabins, with private balconies and hammocks.
Another key thing to note is that a pass holder can take a guest with them, meaning if it was split between two people that cost would come down to $255 a day.
This guest can be freely rotated and changed as the pass holder chooses.
Richard Branson, CEO of Virgin Voyages said: “What started as a sought-after ‘work from sea’ concept with our Season Pass has evolved into something even more special,
“Now, Sailors can jump aboard any of our ships, across with an endless variety of exciting destinations for an entire year,” he continued. “We’re offering unlimited opportunities for adventure in a way that has never been done in cruising before.”

Getting your money’s worth?
If we look at three randomly selected Virgin Voyage itineraries, A Dubrovnik and Mykonos cruise, Dominican Daze itinerary, and this Northeast Atlantic Adventure sailing, we can do some calculations to see how good of value one would get from this annual pass.
The North Atlantic sailing comes out to $6700 for eight nights on the sea terrace, the Dominican itinerary is $3110 for five nights and the European sailing comes out to about $6000 for seven nights.
All in all, it equals $15,810 for 20 nights, this comes out to $790.5 for two people, meaning the Virgin annual pass would be offering significant savings.
At that rate, 236 days of cruising would break even, meaning that if you had the desire to cruise more than 236 days of the year with Virgin Voyages, the annual pass would be worth it.
It’s well known that there are many cruisers scattered across the globe who ‘live at sea’, cruising continuously on world cruises, residential ship,s or booking themselves back-to-back voyages.
Virgin has just offered a brand new way to do this.
Nice for those who are rich but offers nothing for Aussies on a pension who can’t even afford a solo trip on any ship because of double the price.
Oh well, that’s life, as long as we have family, friends and good health we lack for nothing.
Happy cruising.
