British cruise company Cruise & Maritime Voyages has revealed the name of their ship.
Their new ship, Vasco da Gama formerly Pacific Eden was acquired earlier this month. Named after the famous Portuguese explorer and navigator, CMV invited their Columbus Club members and trade partners to name her.
Other choices included Phytheas, Henry Hudson and Amerigo Vespucci. Voting closed on Tuesday 20th and Christian Verhounig, the CEO and Chairman of CMV said, โWe are grateful to all those Columbus Club members and Trade Partners who took the time and trouble to vote. From the thousands received, the winner is Vasco da Gama with 46% of the total vote.โ
The new ship will be deployed and dedicated to both the German and Australasianย cruiseย markets.
During the northern summer (May-October) the ship will operate under CMVโs German brand, TransOcean Kreuzfahrten homeporting from both Bremerhaven and Kiel, and during the Australian summer season (December-March) from Fremantle (Perth) and Adelaide, offering a more traditional scenicย cruiseย experience.
Vasco da Gamaโsย maiden voyage will depart from Singapore on Wednesday, 24thย April 2019 on a spectacular 46-night adventure visiting South East Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Egypt, Jordan, transiting the Suez Canal, Israel and the classical highlights of the Mediterranean before arriving in London Tilbury, Amsterdam and Bremerhaven.
Details ofย Vasco da Gamaโsย maiden voyage are scheduled to be released in May.
