How Aussie cruiser showed off her true colours onboard Queen Anne

  • Aussie cruiser decks her balcony with Aussie flags.
  • She is also a loyal Cunard cruiser.
  • She loves the new Queen Anne.

You can’t get more Australian than Janet Simpson.

When the loyal Cunard cruiser decked her cabin balcony with Australian flags as the new Queen Anne sailed into Sydney for the first time last week, she did not know what to expect from fellow travellers.

Fantastic praises – no brickbats.

And she also got 46 comments on Facebook – now that’s quite a record.

“I wanted to make a statement coming into the harbour, hence I came very prepared with the flags never expecting to get the reaction we did,” she told Cruise Passenger.

“Honestly, thought we were breaking the rules of what could be on the balcony and as it was in full view of the bridge, expected some reaction or reprimand on board. So glad we did the extra leg as Sydney did not disappoint.

“I was prepared for a repeat performance in Brisbane, where I grew up but sadly after leaving Sydney we went at great spread to outrun Cyclone Alfred. Queen Anne had no desire to greet an old relative and she succeeded as we are now in the calm waters of the Whitsundays. Our awful night of very rough weather behind us, the Queen is very happy not to have had a family reunion with Alfred.’’

Simpson loves Queen Anne.

“The ship is beautiful and as we have heard many times from seasoned Cunarders, but she is not the Mary or not the Elizabeth. She is not, but she is Queen Anne and very different that does not make her less of a ship, she has her own identity, and we love her. She still has the wonderful Cunard qualities, excellent speakers and entertainment. We are learning bridge probably as overstatement on my part as it is not an easy game and I am not the star pupil.

“We have travelled on all Cunard ships including QE2 so I think I am qualified to compare. Anyone thinking of cruising on Cunard, please do, you will not be disappointed and hopefully you will love them as much as we do,” she said.

Good on ya, Janet, as any blue-blooded Aussie would say.

  1. If Cunard had not deserted Melbourne as a home port I would have booked a cabin, but now, those lines that boycotted Melbourne have lost a lot of customers!

  2. Well done Janet with the flags, looks like you are having a great time. Good luck with the Bridge
leaning, its a really challenging game but very rewarding. Enjoy the rest of your stay on board.

  3. Oh how I miss cruising and fear I will never again enjoy the wonderful experience. I love reading other cruisers’ tales and watching TV shows about ships and where they voyage.
