Celebrity Cruises has unveiled plans to introduce some of the newest features on the Edge class ships to the line’s Australian fleet.
The news comes as Celebrity Cruises unveiled the Celebrity Apex, the latest of the Edge class vessels, and started steel cutting on its third.
Three Celebrity ships are getting upgraded in 2020, the Silhouette, Constellation and Infinity. And in 2021, our Solstice-class Australian ships, the Eclipse and Solstice will be debuting their new look in April and October respectively.
So Australian cruisers will be able to get a taste of the Edge class vessels without heading to Europe and the Caribbean where the Apex will sail when she debuts in April.
A standout feature that debuted on their Edge-class ships is exclusive spaces for suite guests. This includes the suites-only lounge and sun deck, The Retreat. The exclusive space has a clean and modern look of a high-end resort, created by interior designer Kelly Hoppen. The modern aesthetic is also continued in the staterooms and suites on board. The line has also created a suites-only dining venue, Luminae.
All of these elements will be introduced to the rest of the fleet as they receive their US$500-million update. The Michael’s Clubs are being converted into The Retreat Lounge and Retreat Sun Decks are being added, though most without a pool.
“I would say the biggest impact that Celebrity Edge had on the rest of the fleet was the ‘Celebrity Revolution,'” Lutoff-Perlo told Cruise Critic. “We realised that we were able [to retrofit] because of the halo effect of Edge.”
And the revolution won’t just include features that debuted on Edge. Craft Social, a new bar concept launching on Apex will be retrofitted onto Edge and other vessels, including the Celebrity Silhouette which is currently getting her upgrade in a Cadiz shipyard.
The Celebrity Equinox the first Solstice-class ship to be upgraded emerged mid last year with a whole host of new features to sail the Caribbean.
