The crew aboard Hurtigruten’s MS Nordnorge have been praised after video footage has emerged of the ship battling strong winds and choppy seas.

The ship was pushed into the Bodo harbour pier in Norway when it encountered harsh weather conditions on January 21.

According to Maritime Bulletin, skipper Tormond Karlsen said: “It was quiet when we entered the harbour, but then came the strong gusts of wind from the northwest.

“We just had to let it stand use the engines for everything they are worth.”

The footage shows the stern hit the pier first, and then the rest of vessel follows. The video shows two people wearing high-vis vests retreat from the harbour wall before running forwards to fix the rope to the deck fitting.

Passengers can be seen peering over the side of the ship as she docks.
