One of Princess’ largest ships, Crown Princess pioneered some of the line’s most popular features, including an adults-only sun deck and a three-story central piazza. There is a wide spectrum of activities on offer, from mahjong to football rallies and Sound Of Music sing-alongs.

Decorated in warm, muted tones with oak trim, the rooms are comfy and vibrant. In many, a short interior hallway leads to an open closet and bathroom, adding some additional privacy. The cabins are quite spaciou. Thirty-one cabins are disabled-accessible, including six interiors, four outsides, 16 balconies, four mini-suites and one full suite. Princess has a host of suite-only services, including a pillow menu, pillow-top mattresses, complimentary mini-bar setup and a CD/DVD player with access to a free film library. Moreover, suite passengers enjoy priority boarding and departures, along with a dedicated line at the Passenger Services Desk and a private disembarkation lounge. Other perks include free laundry, professional cleaning and shoe polishing, along with access to the Lotus Spa Thermal Suite.

The main dining rooms, Botticelli, Da Vinci and Michelangelo, offer a mix of traditional and anytime dining options, all with identical menus that vary daily. More adventurous eaters should keep an eye on Cafe Caribe’s buffets, which feature more international cuisine. Open 24 hours, the International Cafe serves pastries and yoghurt-granola parfaits until 11am and then a light, easily portable menu for the rest of the day. Drop by for pressed paninis and salads ranging from feta with cubed watermelon to beets in orange vinaigrette, alongside desserts like pistachio pudding. At the Chef’s Table, Princess invites up to 10 diners per evening into the galley for a peek behind the scenes as the chef preps the dishes. Delicacies vary but might include foie gras terrine on toast, asparagus risotto with lobster, and buckwheat blinis with caviar and creme fraiche, followed by iced amaretto parfait.

The Lotus Spa segregates the serene, Asian-influenced lounge and treatment rooms from the bustle of the fitness centre and beauty salon. Other salon services include manicures, pedicures, waxing, men’s collagen mini-facials with shaves, and keratin treatments with blow-outs. Two standouts include the Moor Spa Mud Foot Therapy & Foot Massage and the Ionithermie Detox & Inch-Loss. Moreover, the Lotus Spa also offers teeth whitening and sessions. Crown Princess has a VIP Thermal Suite: a grotto of steam chambers, sauna suites and five hot-stone beds. The gym has massive windows overlooking the bow. Yoga and body sculpting happen right in the middle of the treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and weight machines.

Through the Pete’s Pals program, Princess teaches children about local endangered animals wherever it sails and participants receive limited-edition plush animal souvenirs. Children ages eight to 12 years have a more techy environment at Shockwaves, where Wiis, PlayStations and karaoke machines rule. Children-only dinners allow parents to dine solo on several evenings. Group babysitting is also available from 10pm to 1am ($5 per hour for ages three to 12, free for teens). Teens have a lounge called Remix, which adds air hockey to the video game systems found in Shockwaves. Participants can take hip-hop dance classes, learn to make mocktails and design t-shirts, teddy bears and even backpacks.
