Built in Italy and launched in 2007, Costa Serena can accommodate 3,000 passengers with 1,090 crew throughout its 13 passenger decks. The interiors have a heavenly theme and the ship is decked out with 5,990 pieces of artwork. The 114,147 tonne ship has three decks full of bars, lounges and public spaces.

There are 1,500 staterooms, including 505 cabins that have a private balcony and 27 that are wheelchair accessible. There are also 58 suites, all with private balconies. Cabins range from 180 to 482 square feet.

There are five restaurants on board. Ristorante Ceres is the main dining venue and has open seating for breakfast and lunch and set seating at dinner. Other venues include the upscale Bacco Club Restaurant and the healthy Samsara, which both have an additional charge and require reservations. There are also 13 bars on board.

Samsara Spa has a UVA solarium, rock sauna, steam clay bath, Thalassotherapy pool with jets, tepidarium, aromatic thermal baths, relaxation area with stone heated recliners and beauty salon. There is a gym, four pools (two with a retractable glass roof), five Jacuzzis, a multipurpose sports pitch and an outdoor jogging track

Costa Serena is a family-friendly ship with venues and activities for children, teens and families. In the Mondo Virtuale, teens can  play arcade games and air hockey. The Squok Club is a play venue with organised activities for kids aged three to 11 years. There is a children’s pool and free babysitting is offered for children at least three years of age during set hours each day.

Verdict

– Cruise Passenger 

The décor is quite unusual. Costa Serena ‘Land of the Gods’ is how it sounds – lots of pictures of gods and goddesses everywhere. The atrium has these ‘gods’ looking down on you, we had a bit of a laugh about it initially but actually it’s not as offensive on the eyes as it sounds. It is very clean and there is lots going on. It actually reminded us of a themed hotel in Las Vegas, and we loved Vegas. We had a great first day relaxing into our first Costa Experience and met some lovely people.
