Carnival Ecstasy, being the second oldest ship in Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet, has undergone refurbishments through the years. During the 2009 overhaul, distinct Carnival signatures such as the waterslides were added. Colours on board are bold, with neons and shiny silver surfaces, matching the vibe of Ecstasy. It carries about 2,052 passengers and is considered small compared to her mega-ship cousins. Offering short cruises, Ecstasy attracts families. The dress code is casual with resort wear during the day and button-down shirts and summer dresses at night. Gratuities are $12.95 per person, per day.

Ecstasy’s 1,026 cabins are decorated in shades of orange with cherry-colored wood. Rooms are outfitted with a safe, telephone, individual bathrobes and a flat-screen TV (programming revolves around the ship and port activities). Bathrooms are practical, with a shelf for storage, bars of soap and dispensers for shampoo and shower gel. Outside suites have more space, whirlpool bathtubs and eclectic decor and furniture. To accommodate large groups and multigenerational families, there are 109 cabins that can be adjoined. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Suite guests have more options compared to others.

Ecstasy has two main dining rooms: Wind Song and Wind Star. Dinner is set at Wind Song, with dinner times at 6pm and 8.15pm. Both Wind Song and Wind Star feature a set menu of seafood, steak and burgers, and a one that changes nightly with a variety of options and Carnival’s famous warm chocolate melting cake. “Didja” (as in did you ever) option is a more adventurous take on dining as it features dishes such as escargot, alligator or frog legs. Wind Star not only opens its doors for dinner (from 5.45pm to 9pm), but also serves breakfast and lunch. For a fee, cruisers can try out other dining options including the intimate Chef’s Table, which is open to just 12 passengers. Room service is available 24 hours a day and is free, but tips are encouraged.

Kids have so many activities on board. Waterworks is a zone decked with sprinklers, sprayers, and waterslides. Camp Carnival sorts out children in age groups and offers them age-appropriate programs. After 10pm, Camp Carnival Night Owls opens and kids can continue playing and hanging out in a supervised environment until 3am. Twelve to 14year-olds have their own zone called Circle C where they can chill out and play video games. Club 02, for older teenagers, is where pool parties are held.
