Celebrity Cruises’ first edge-class ship Celebrity Edge is set to sail for the first time on Australian waters to commence its inaugural summer season down under. 

This 2018-built lady of the sea will be homeported in Sydney and will be offering 6- to-16-night itineraries from November 2023 through April 2024. 

Cruise enthusiasts may choose from 12 bespoke itineraries with an impressive 22 port of calls with departures from Sydney and Auckland. 

This Celebrity Cruises-operated ship has a total gross tonnage of 129, 500, spans 306 metres in length, and sails at an average speed of 22 knots.

Suites and staterooms

Celebrity Edge has 1467 staterooms for 2918 passengers. Of the ship’s staterooms,  81% are Balcony, 10% Oceanview, and 9 % Inside. There are 178 connecting cabins and 25 wheelchair-accessible cabins. 

The 2-stateroom Iconic Suite measures 176 square metres and its balcony is 64 square metres. The suite’s veranda has 1 whirlpool hot tub, shaded private cabana, and an outdoor lounge seating. Each Iconic Suite has 2 bedrooms with King-sized beds, 2 full-bathrooms, and a floor-ceiling windows.

The Edge Villa  has a total of six staterooms that measure 146 square metres including the veranda. The Penthouse Suite on the other hand, is a 2-stateroom suite sized 146 square metres including the veranda. 

Other Suite accommodations are the 4-stateroom Royal Suite (71 square metres), 16-stateroom Celebrity Suite (47 square metres), and the 94-stateroom Sky Suite (30-39 square metres). 

There are personal butlers serving in all Suites. Suite guests have free beverage package for 2, onboard credit, unlimited free Wi-Fi, and price-included gratuities.

The ship’s non-Suite accommodations are Aqua-Concierge Balcony Cabins, Edge Veranda Infinity or French Balcony Cabin, Balcony Cabin,  Oceanview Cabin, and the Interior Cabin.  

Standard amenities for all staterooms include bathrobes, tote bags, and smart HDTV. The usual bath toiletries, hairdryer, electronic safe box and lifejackets (in the closet), mini-bar, dual (110-220 V) power outlets are also present. Also, all staterooms have King-sized beds with deluxe bedding.

Only single cabins have Queen-sized beds. All staterooms also have small touch screens that control air-conditioning, lighting, shades or curtains. 

Each cabin is fitted with keyless room entry technology using digital keys (on smartphones). There are also standard keycards, and RFID bands.

Celebrity Cruises also implements a fleet-wide charge  of USD 3.95 for late-night room service orders. Passengers exempted from this room service fee are guests booked in Aqua-class, Concierge-class, and all Suites. 

Just like in any other cruise line, Celebrity Cruises implements an automatic tipping system (gratuity) charged per person per day.  For standard cabins (Inside, Oceanview, Balcony) the charge is USD 13.50. On the other hand, Aqua Class-Concierge Class cabins have an automatic gratuity of USD 14, while USD 17 is charged for guests in Suites accommodations.  

Except for the 16 single-occupancy cabins designed for guests traveling solo, all Edge staterooms can accommodate a maximum of four passengers. 

Dining and culinary experience

With 29 restaurants and bars, seven specialty dining hubs, and 11 bars and lounges, Celebrity Edge offers an extensive list of dining options for guests to enjoy onboard. 

Complimentary dining

Main dining rooms

The ship has four complimentary main dining rooms:  Normandie, Tuscan, Cosmopolitan, and Cyprus. All these dining rooms have “Celebrity Signatures” and “Classic” menus. Guests may also opt to choose from two seating options: Celebrity traditional dining, Celebrity select dining plus. 

Traditional dining allows guests onboard to choose an early or late seating. They will be assigned to one of the four main dining rooms. On the other hand, Select dining plus allows guests to make reservations to any of the four main dining rooms at any time they please. 

The four main dining rooms also provide a special menu for vegetarian guests. 

The Luminae

The Luminae restaurant is a complimentary dining hub exclusive only to Suite passengers. This restaurant is located at The Retreat and guests may dine any time they wish without reservations. Furthermore, Celebrity Cruises partnered with highly acclaimed New York-based French chef, Daniel Boulud, where he designed menu items available only for Luminae. 

Blu

There’s also the spa-inspired restaurant called Blu which is exclusive only for guests staying in AquaClass and Suites accommodations. Blu is only available for breakfast and dinner.

Oceanview Cafe

In addition, Celebrity Edge also has the signature buffet restaurant- the Oceanview Cafe Buffet. Here, menus are arranged into stations at the center of the hall. Meanwhile, the restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner where guests could see chefs crafting treats out in the open. 

Other free dining venues

Other complimentary restaurants guests could enjoy are the Mast Grill that offers burgers (beef, cheese, turkey), hot dogs, and fries, and the Eden Cafe for breakfast and lunch bites.

Aside from the complimentary dining areas, guests of Celebrity Edge may also opt to enjoy sumptuous meals for a fee

Eden Restaurant

The Eden Restaurant on Deck 4 serves a five-course “experiential” meal. From an array of appetizers such as bouquet of garden greens, bazaar bowl, and pan roasted carabinero shrimp to a list of entrees like nova scotia lobster casserole, filet mignon and mini short rib wellington, and the  oven roasted chicken. 

Fine Cut Steakhouse

Fine Cut Steakhouse never fails to serve premium cuts. This restaurant offers a variety of steaks that range from 6-ounce filet mignon to the 14-ounce ribeye. In addition, there are also choices other than steak such as lobster, chicken, and sea bass. 

Magic Carpet on 5 and Rooftop Garden Grill

The ship’s signature Magic Carpet on Deck 5 provides al fresco dining experience. Meanwhile, Rooftop Garden Grill serves brisket, burgers, and some BBQ style dishes in an open area setting so guests could have a clearer view of the ocean.

Dinner on the Edge

During night time, there’s this sky-high dining experience for guests. This happens when Magic Carpet positions itself on top of the ship and hosts a dinner called Dinner on the Edge.

Onboard activities

Celebrity Edge prides itself as one of the highly innovative and high-tech ships at sea. The multipurpose Magic Carpet is a sure hit among guests as it can be raised and lowered and has several functions. Magic Carpet can be a restaurant that gives al fresco dining experience, a spot for an afternoon drink during sea days, and even a party space and dining venue up in the air at night time. 

The theatre

The ship’s main theatre is considered one of the most high-tech theatres at sea. It has a massive 36.6-metre-wide projection screens with 18 state-of-the-art mapping laser projectors. The venue also highlights a duo-directional rotating platform that spans more than two metres above the stage. Here, guests shall witness Shakespeare-inspired productions as well as jaw-dropping shows and concerts.

The Rooftop Garden

The Rooftop Garden is also one entertainment spot located at deck 15. It’s a big outdoor park where guests can interact with performers and participate in some garden games. During night time, guests are in for a treat to live music on stage or movies on the big screen. 

The Club

In addition, The Club provides different activities like trivia games, seminars, board games, and even a laser maze event during day time. At night, this venue turns into a spot for live band and theatre shows. 

Bars and lounges

When it comes to bars and lounges, Celebrity Edge got everything covered. There’s the Destination Gateway on Deck 2, the Martini Bar that sits below the gigantic chandelier in the Grand Plaza, and the Eden Bar on deck 5. 

The Prism Bar on deck 14 is considered as the main pool bar. If guests would want to get a drink to go with their buffet meal, Il Secondo Bacio is the place to be as it is located just inside the Oceanview Cafe.

There’s also the busiest Sunset Bar on deck 15 where guests could find a spot to watch the ship’s wake. 

Pools

Celebrity Edge also has a long all-access pool housed at deck 14. There are hundreds of lounge chairs around the pool and most of them are facing the ocean. 

Spa

The ship’s spa is said to be offering the most high-tech treatments available at sea. There’s the Ocean Spa Wave massage which treatment includes a foot and scalp reflexology, an algae wrap, and aromatherapy. Other options are Hot Mineral Body Boost and the edge-exclusive zero-gravity wellness massage which uses an 8-position table. 

There’s also a fitness gym on deck 15. It is said to be one of the most comprehensive fitness hubs in the Celebrity fleet. 

There are also activities for kids to enjoy such as Camp at Sea, and the Anturus Explorer Academy. 

Celebrity Edge deck plan

Celebrity Edge is the first of all the 5 Edge-class ships of the Celebrity fleet. Its deck plan showcases a total of 1467 staterooms to accommodate a maximum of 3521 passengers. 

The ship boasts its  “Infinite Veranda” cabins which are 23% larger with bathrooms that are 10% larger than the Solstice-Class balcony cabins. 

Celebrity Edge has 15 decks and 14 of which are wheel-chair accessible. 

The deck plan also features a two-level Atrium stairway looking out over a terrace with a plunge pool that measures one metre. 

Deck 3 houses the two main dining halls: Normandie and the Tuscan restaurants. It is also here where the Grand Plaza Cafe and the Martini Bar are located. The Theater is also housed on this deck and spans through deck 5. 

The Meeting Place which is considered as the ship’s Conference Center is housed at deck 4. Cosmopolitan, Cyprus, and Eden Restaurant are also housed on this deck as well as The Club, the Casino, and Le Grand Bistro. 

Staterooms are concentrated from deck 6 through deck 12. Luminae At The Retreat is also located on deck 12 together with the ship’s two Iconic Suites. 

Deck 14 of the ship houses the Spa and Sea Thermal Suites, the Solarium, the Oceanview Cafe, and the Pool Deck. 

The Fitness Center, The Retreat Lounge, the Rooftp Garden, and the Sunset Bar are all housed on deck 15. 

Deck 16 has the The Retreat Sundeck and the The Retreat Pool. 

The glass-structured Magic Carpet is a unique feature of the ship that traverses 14 decks just like a large elevator. 

When the Magic Carpet is positioned on Deck 2, it becomes an extension of the Destination Gateway. If it’s in Deck 5, it becomes a specialty dining hub that offers al fresco dining. When it’s positioned on Deck 14, Magic Carpet becomes an extension of the pool deck area. Finally, when it reaches deck 16 it becomes a specialty resto that offers “Dinner on the Edge”.
