Residential cruise line Crescent Seas has just announced a third ship with units from $1m

  • Crescent Seas, a new residential cruise line, has just announced its third ship.
  • While the first two ships for the line’s fleet will be acquired, this ship will be built specifically for the cruise line.
  • The announcement of a third cruise ship so soon is a clear signal of the cruise line’s ambition.

When Crescent Heights, a real estate developer, announced it would be entering the cruise market, no one thought the company would be announcing a third ship, just three weeks after their initial reveal.

The new cruise line continues to power forward, announcing a new ship The Ocean. This will add to its already planned acquisitions of Seven Seas Navigator from Regent Seven Seas and Oceania Insignia from Oceania Cruises.

Crescent Seas Founder and Chairman Russell Galbut said of the new purchase: “Every day we’re building Crescent Seas, we’re learning something new. We’re not just building a ship; we’re building a community and revolutionising residential living at sea. For the first time in history, people have the opportunity to own a home that moves with them, permanently.

“This isn’t a one-off project; we have multiple ships already in development, each designed to redefine what it means to live on the water.”

The ship will join the fleet in 2032, serving as another ship offering residential services, meaning cruisers won’t just cruise, but they’ll actually live at sea.

The cruise line describes its purpose as: “Designed for those who seek adventure and discovery, Crescent Seas offers an unparalleled residential experience at sea. Own a private residence aboard our amenity-rich ships and explore the world without leaving the comforts of home.”

While we don’t know more details about The Ocean in particular yet, cabins likely won’t come cheap. For example, on the reformed Insignia, they’ll start from between $1.01m and $15 million.

Sydneysiders with a keen eye may have noticed MV World, a luxury residential cruise ship, ported in Sydney Harbour this past summer. Crescent Seas is essentially aiming to offer a similar service, an endless cruise experience where your cabin can be fully owned and serve as your full-time residence.

The cruise line is set to enter into operation as soon as next week, starting out with a refitted version of Seven Seas Navigator, with a remodelled Insignia set to join the fleet the following year.

The cruise line has also already signalled its intention to add more ships to the fleet, reflecting its clear desire to shake up and grow the residential cruising industry.
