In Short:

Legend of the Seas will be sailing Europe in July. Aussies are particularly welcome.

  • Royal Caribbean recently unveiled Legend of the Seas in Singapore with a whimsical chocolate-making event, offering a first look at its headline onboard entertainment Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
  • Set to debut in Europe in July 2026, the next-generation Icon Class ship will feature immersive experiences including Silk Road-inspired Royal Railway dining and the glamorous Hollywoodland Supper Club.
  • With sailings from destinations like Barcelona before moving to the Caribbean, it’s shaping up as a standout fly-cruise option.

It’s not every day that a cruise ship preview involves painting chocolate, crafting kaya toast-inspired bars and stepping into the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

But that’s exactly how Royal Caribbean International chose to introduce its newest megaship, Legend of the Seas, in Singapore – through an intimate, imaginative workshop that blended storytelling, food and a hint of what’s to come onboard.

Held in collaboration with artisan chocolate shop Mr. Bucket Chocolaterie, the experience wasn’t just playful. It was a deliberate nod to one of the ship’s headline attractions: a full-scale Broadway-style production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, set to debut onboard when the ship launches in July 2026.

Legend of the Seas

Next gen cruising

Speaking at the event attended by Cruise Passenger, Chad Grospe, Vice President and Managing Director for APAC, framed Legend of the Seas as a milestone moment for the cruise line.

“Today is a celebration of the debut of Legend of the Sea, and we thought this would be a really fun event to bring the experience to life,” he said.

Grospe described the ship as a continuation of Royal Caribbean’s push to redefine holidays at sea.

Legend of the Seas represents the next generation of vacations,” he said. “It’s going to be our third Icon Class ship, and it’s designed to bring our boldest experiences yet across dining, activities and entertainment.”

He highlighted the scale of what’s coming onboard, from new dining concepts to major attractions.

“We’re going to have three new experiential dining experiences, as well as an adrenaline-packed water park—our largest yet—and new entertainment that will leave you on the edge of your seat,” he added.

For Australian travellers considering a fly-cruise, Grospe pointed to the ship’s inaugural European deployment as a major draw.

“Our guests will have a chance to really check off that bucket-list vacation,” he said, referencing itineraries that include destinations like Barcelona and Majorca.

He also underscored the importance of entertainment as a defining feature of the ship.

“Central to the Legend of the Seas experience is the entertainment,” he said. “We’ll be debuting Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at sea, and we thought this was a fitting way to introduce the ship.”

Royal Caribbean’s sense of wonder

At the Singapore workshop, we took part in a hands-on chocolate-making session—painting designs, assembling bars and even crafting a kaya toast-inspired creation to take home.

It was all designed to mirror the sense of wonder that Royal Caribbean is aiming to bring onboard.

The upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory production is expected to be one of the ship’s standout experiences, complete with elaborate sets, large-scale staging, fantastical storytelling and a talented cast.

We were also shown behind-the-scenes footage of the casting process, which saw more than 1,000 performers audition in London and New York for a cast of 31.

Unlike traditional cruise entertainment, this isn’t a touring show—it’s being created specifically for the ship, marking its debut at sea.

Legend’s other highlights

Beyond entertainment, food is shaping up to be a defining feature of Legend.

During the event, RCL highlighted that one of the most intriguing new concepts is Royal Railway – Legend Station, an immersive dining experience inspired by journeys along the ancient Silk Routes. Guests will follow the travels of Marco Polo through a five-course menu spanning China, India and Italy.

For something glamorous, the Hollywoodland Supper Club promises a night of old-school elegance, complete with jazz, cocktails and a cinematic journey through the golden age of Hollywood

And for more casual dining, the AquaDome Market—an Icon Class favourite—returns with a refreshed lineup of global food stalls and a new juice and smoothie bar.

Altogether, the ship will feature 28 dining venues, alongside familiar Royal Caribbean favourites like Chops Grille, Izumi and Hooked Seafood.

Of course, this wouldn’t be an Icon Class ship without the headline thrills. Legend will feature an expanded water park—set to be the largest in Royal Caribbean’s fleet—alongside a mix of adrenaline-packed attractions and family-friendly spaces.

Why Legend of the Seas is good for Aussies

The chocolate workshop ended on a fitting note—we got to sample our creations and take home a tangible reminder of the experience. It was a small but memorable way to introduce a ship that’s aiming to deliver something much bigger.

For Australian cruisers, Legend represents more than just another new ship. It’s an opportunity to rethink the fly-cruise experience—combining long-haul travel with one of the most ambitious cruise products on the market.

After its European debut, Legend will reposition to the Caribbean, offering seven- to nine-night itineraries that include stops at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay—a favourite among repeat cruisers.

This dual-season deployment gives Australians flexibility: a European summer sailing for culture and history, or a Caribbean escape for sun and relaxation.

The cruise line’s Air2Sea programme also allows guests from Australia to bundle flights with their cruise booking, with added protection if travel plans go awry.

And if Royal Caribbean’s chocolate-filled preview is anything to go by, this is one sailing that will lean heavily into imagination, immersion and just a little bit of magic.
