THEY called it the first floating runway.  The arrival of Majestic Princess, Australia’s newest homeported mega liner was certainly a dramatic sight at dawn on Sydney Harbour as she sailed past 62 red and white flares.

Majestic Princess is the largest of the line’s vessels to visit Australia.  And she will sail Australian and New Zealand itineraries for the next six months.

The magnificent super liner features a series of firsts:  two Michelin-stared restaurants, the largest shopping mall with big brand names, an over-the-ocean glass walkway hovering 39 metres above the ocean and a huge spa

Princess Cruises Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific, Stuart Allison said Majestic Princess’ maiden Sydney season was testament to the popularity of cruising among Australians.

Majestic Princess was only launched last year and is the flagship of our fleet, so it’s an incredible vote of confidence in both the Australian cruise market and the appeal of Australia as a cruise destination for such a spectacular ship to be based here for six months,” said Stuart Allison, the line’s senior vice president, Asia Pacific.

The 3560-passenger ship will be based in Sydney, carrying close to 70,000 Australian and international travellers on 18 cruises this season.

At 143,700 tonnes, Majestic Princess is equivalent to 126 Sydney Manly ferries, while her height of more than 68 metres makes her taller than the Sydney Opera House

Princess already carries one in five Australian cruisers, and is a firm favourite among those who prefer premium comforts.

Cruise Passenger sailed Majestic Princess on her inaugural in the Mediteranean.  Our verdict:  she sets a new standard in an already highly contested sector of the market.  You can read our review here.

Majestic Princess joins three other Princess Cruises’ ships – Sun Princess, Sea Princess and Golden Princess – in Australia this summer, with the four ships sailing on itineraries from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle, Adelaide and Auckland.

Fares for a 12-night cruise onboard Majestic Princess to New Zealand sailing roundtrip from Sydney departing 25 January 2019 start from $2,079 per person twin share.
