  • A Cruise Passenger poll has revealed that 73% of cruisers won’t travel to the USA under Trump.
  • Some cruisers even revealed that they’ve cancelled or are considering cancelling cruises to the US.
  • Read why cruisers aren’t keen on the USA right now.

Around 73 per cent of cruisers say they won’t be sailing to the USA as long as Donald Trump is in office.

The sentiment comes amid political tensions in America, and on top of that, the government has proposed increased social media checks for travellers visiting the country.

The culmination of events has forced some Australians to cancel their planned cruises in America due to the waning political climate.

A Cruise Passenger poll of cruisers revealed that, of more than 250 respondents, 73 per cent would not travel to or cruise to the USA right now, 26 per cent would, and one per cent are not sure.

Cruiser Janette Hay revealed that she’s cancelled two cruises and “won’t be going to the USA whilst Trump is in power”.

Another cruiser revealed that they’re considering ditching their non-refundable cruise deposit for a Hawaii cruise.

“We have booked and paid a $1600 non refundable deposit on the transpacific cruise to Hawaii for 2027. I’m reconsidering going as I just don’t feel right going to the USA with what’s been going on lately and if they were to search my phone on arrival and see that  I’m not a fan of the orange man and his gun-happy servants, they would probably not let me in”.

Cruiser Toni Hutson also cancelled a cruise and trip to America, and even notes that they’ve seen cheap offers for American cruises.

“I’ve cancelled my cruises and trip there, I’ll be going to Japan and Canada instead. I got a super cheap offer yesterday from Carnival for Brisbane to San Francisco, so I think lots of people aren’t keen.”

Cruiser Christine Morris even shared a story about her grandson having trouble with the American border security.

“My 23-year-old Australian grandson flew to the USA last year on a working holiday visa. At border security, he was pulled aside and asked many questions about his course. They wanted exact course details, but his documents were in his checked luggage.

“When he couldn’t provide proof, they confiscated his passport and phone, searched it, and wouldn’t allow him to make calls. He didn’t get his belongings back until he was leaving on his return flight. They strip-searched him, detained him for 36 hours, then deported him with a lifetime holiday visa ban.

“His girlfriend, now fiancée, was waiting for him, but he didn’t get to see or speak to her. The border security was arrogant and handled him poorly.”

Others also added that they won’t consider travel to America right now. Luke Brown said, “We also had similar discussions. No way we will ever visit the US as it is currently, just not safe, and I don’t want to give them all my biometrics either.”

Colin Sudweeks added: “Even Americans there are saying for international guests not come, because it’s not safe. Unless you NEED to go for family, work, or some other urgent matter, why would you chance it, when there are so many other places?”

Other Aussie cruisers did report going to the USA and experiencing no issues, or that they have travel planned and aren’t bothered.

Russell Impey said, “Wasn’t for a cruise, but we spent a week in Anaheim/LA before Xmas and after NYE had absolutely no dramas. Cleared customs in five minutes with a “welcome to the country, ya’ll have a great holiday”.

Lauren Katulka said she’ll travel to America to cruise next month. “I am going next month. I wanted to go on a music-themed cruise with particular artists that rarely tour Australia, and that desire trumps everything else that’s going on over there.

“I’ve had friends travel to the States over the last year or so, including some there now, and they’ve had zero issues. So that gives me hope that things will go smoothly when I’m there.”
