The eight-year-old boy who was found unconscious at the bottom of the Anthem of the Seas pool has died.

Royal Caribbean has confirmed that Prince Adepoju from Maryland died on July 2, two days after what the company described as an accident in on of the boat’s pools.

“We are heartbroken to learn the news,” said Royal Caribbean said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this terribly sad time.”

A medical examiner ruled drowning as the cause of death and said a seizure disorder was a contributing factor. The death was ruled as an accident.

The ship left Bayonne in New Jersey on June 30 but returned five hours later after the boy was found unresponsive in the water.

American Coast Guard officials said the boy was likely in the pool for eight to 10 minutes before he was pulled out.
