- Aussie cruisers bloggers are running a petition to request that Carnival Cruises keeps themed cruises running in Australia.
- The petition has nearly 500 signatures in just over two days and many cruise passengers have expressed their support for the idea.
- Currently, Carnival has no themed cruises scheduled beyond January 2026.
Aussie cruise bloggers Rob and Ali have started a petition calling on Carnival Cruise Line to keep it’s themed cruises running in Australia – and it’s already run up nearly 500 signatures in 48 hours.
Cruise Passenger previously drew attention to this issue when Carnival released their 2026/27 itineraries, and themed cruises were nowhere to be seen.
P&O Cruises Australia was known for running a big variety of themed cruises, such as 80s, 90, Elvis, country and more. However, since P&O Cruises Australia was shut down and absorbed into Carnival Cruise Line, there are no longer any themed cruises scheduled and it looks like Carnival is set to phase them out.
While Carnival does have themed nights onboard its sailings, it doesn’t currently offered cruises with a theme for the entire duration of the cruise, such as an 80s cruise.
Some themed cruises still remain as they were scheduled with P&O, but after January next year, there are no themed itineraries scheduled for Carnival.
Rob and Ali wrote in the petition: “We’re passionate fans of Carnival’s short, themed cruises in Australia, and we know many others feel the same.
“Through social media cruise groups and our YouTube channel, Rob and Ali Cruise & Travel, we’ve seen the disappointment about the end of these beloved voyages.
“The themed cruises, such as the vibrant 80s and the laughter-filled Comedy cruises, bring a unique touch to the Australian cruising experience. They offer an escape for countless Australians, providing a refreshing break filled with entertainment and nostalgia. However, with the last of these short, themed sailings scheduled for January 2026, it seems an end is near for this cherished tradition.
“The decision to no longer offer these cruises has left many in the cruising community disheartened. For many of us, these voyages are more than just a holiday, they are memorable experiences that connect us with fellow enthusiasts and create lasting friendships.”

The couple then called on Carnival to reinstitute the cruises and show they’re listening to the Aussie cruise community.
“Carnival has already expressed and shown their commitment to the Australian cruise market and by keeping these themed cruises alive beyond January 2026, Carnival would be further showing that they want to listen, understand and respond to the desires of cruise lovers here.
“We invite fellow fans and supporters of these themed adventures to unite in urging Carnival Cruise Line Australia to reconsider their decision. Let’s show Carnival how much these short, themed cruises mean to the Australian cruising community.”
Cruisers generally feel that themed cruises are very indicative of the unique Aussie cruising experience, and that keeping them around will help keep that Aussie flavour of cruise, that was associated with P&O Cruises.
What are others saying?
Other cruises have rallied their support behind the petition, adding their own comments.
Cruiser Bobbie wrote: “Themed cruises have allowed people from all walks of life to come together and enjoy a few days at sea sharing their live of the same. It’s unique and something most Aussie cruisers love experiencing! Please keep the party going!”
Another cruise Leone wrote: “I did an 80’s cruise in July and have re booked for November, I loved it and getting to re visit my youth. The themed vibe definitely makes it easier to break the ice with fellow passengers.
“Three days can fly by, but it’s long enough to have a good time and make some new friends. I’m not surprised these cruises sell out quickly – people are willing to splurge for a fun-filled 3-day escape that’s all about good vibes and nostalgia. What a fantastic way to spend my time!”
