The outbreak of coronavirus has affected the decisions of many travellers. Should I stay or should I go? But this perhaps, might be the best time to snag cruise and air deals.

With ships being deployed to Australia and to the Mediterranean, away from Asian waters, not only are lines reducing prices but also companies like Norwegian Cruise Lines are enticing passengers with their ‘Free for All’ offers.

This includes free drinks packages, specialty dining and even up to US$1,500 onboard credit.

And in a bid to encourage cruisers to keep booking, Royal Caribbean have flash sales on Australia’s largest ship, Ovation of the Seas for sailings later in the year.

On a 12-night sailing from Sydney to New Zealand, guests can save up to 40 per cent onboard Ovation of the Seas.

Barry Downs from Bicton Travel in Western Australia said while he hasn’t seen massive reductions for the year, he has seen a number of great deals.

“I haven’t seen any massive reductions across 2020 just yet, but with the relaxed cancelation policies being announced by many cruise lines there will likely be great pack and go rates. However given that many airlines are reducing schedules &/or capacity in the short term, the availability of great value airfares may be harder to find,” he said.

“Having said this some great deals that crossed my desk just this week almost all are great value pricing, but many lines now offer two fare structures where you can pay a little more and have bonus inclusions.”

He added that especially Asian-based ships like the Sapphire Princess has meant that we are seeing increased capacity with fantastic deals.

“The announcement of Sapphire Princess homeporting in Australia has brought a very welcome boost to the winter cruise season offering over 40 itineraries from most of the key ports in Australia,” he said.

“Fremantle and Adelaide benefit  most as they would normally not have a ship home ported during this period.”
