A new route from Mumbai to the Mediterranean offered by Viking Ocean Cruises, has seen a record-breaking number of Australians book the trip.

The deluxe line is offering a sailing in 2020 as well as 2021 with both itineraries departing from Mumbai.

The Mumbai to Mediterranean Passage itinerary, which departs next year, visits 10 countries and includes 12 guided tours.

Aboard the Viking Sun, guests will visit places like Oman, Jordan and Egypt before sailing the Suez Canal. From there, the ship will head towards the Mediterranean and visit destinations in Malta, Italy, Algeria, Spain and Portugal before finishing the journey with a call to Dover and then disembarkation in Greenwich, London.

The 27-day In the Footsteps of Antiquities itinerary will sail from Mumbai to Venice via Muscat and Salalah in Oman; Aqaba in Jordan; Luxor, Sharm el-Sheike and Cairo in Egypt; Jerusalem and Haifa in Israel; Ephesus and Istanbul in Turkey as well as Athens in Greece.

A spokesperson from Viking said, “Both are resonating particularly well in this market – cabins are selling extremely quickly – because they allow adventurous Australian travellers to visit four continents and an incredibly unique mix of ports that would otherwise be very difficult to visit in a single trip – plus sail the Suez Canal.

The 30-day cruise departs on April 3, 2020 and is priced from just $12,995 per person in a Veranda stateroom.
