Hurtigruten Expeditions unveils exciting, new itineraries to the African West Coast next year

Leading adventure line, Hurtigruten Expeditions has unveiled exciting, new itineraries to the African West Coast visiting untouched destinations such as Bissagos Islands and Cape Verde late next year.

Hurtigruten will offer its first-ever, 13-day itinerary on MS Spitsbergen calling at four countries including The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Senegal and Cape Verde which will depart Dakar, one of Africa’s vibrant cities on November 27 2022.

Guests on the African adventure cruise will experience amazing wildlife such as hippos, dolphins, crocodiles, sea turtles, manatees and over 500 species of birds. They will also discover the region’s rugged volcanic islands with its unique blend of African and Portuguese influences. There will be excursions to colonial churches, palatial mansions and old forts. The expansion of Hurtigruten Expeditions to Africa comes hot on the heels of its year-round cruises to the Galapagos Islands starting early next year. The line will also cruise to the Canary Islands and Madeira for the 2022/23 seasons. “We are very excited about expanding to new unique destinations, which complements our Caribbean and South American expedition cruises and strengthens our global position,” said Hurtigruten Expeditions CEO, Asta Lassesen. “With the Bissagos Islands and Cape Verde, we offer a truly unique and off-the-beaten-track destination that is perfect for an expedition adventure like no other.” Accommodating fewer than 200 passengers, MS Spitsbergen offers an intimate and exclusive experience with access to the ship’s signature state-of-the-art Science Center including the popular Citizen Science program for guest to assist in live scientific research.

During the journey, passengers will also spend a day in Banjul, the capital of Gambia, explore the island of Goree and immerse in the dark history of the former slave island. There will be five African expedition cruises departing on November 27, December 9 and 21 in 2022 and January 2 and 4 in 2023. Hurtigruten Expeditions itineraries to the Canary Islands and Madeira will focus on hikes, national parks and cultural walking tours.
