  • This is extremely dangerous behaviour that could have had severe consequences if anything went wrong.
  • The incident happened on a Royal Caribbean ship.

A shocking video has been circling on the internet, which shows two teenagers climbing the balcony railing of their cruise ship cabins, renewing the debate over cruise ship safety and controlling young passengers.

The video posted on TikTok by @dvandzzedsw shows the young cruisers climbing right up onto the railings and edging themselves along between the cabins. This is extremely dangerous behaviour and could easily lead to a fatal fall.

One slight misstep and either of the young boys could have fallen off the ship.

Few details have emerged so far, but it’s believed that the incident took place on Wonder of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship. The behaviour warrants a clear breach of Royal Caribbean’s code of conduct, and cruisers will be keenly waiting to hear if the cruisers will be punished, for example with a lifetime ban.

Apart from acts like these putting the young kids themselves in an extremely dangerous situation, it also endangers the rescue crew that would potentially need to rescue them, and endangers other passengers in case the kids fell into a different part of the ship, rather than overboard.

The behaviour of younger cruisers has long been an extremely prominent issue amongst the cruise community. With complaints ranging from everything from disruptive children to violent teenagers.

This incident is sure to raise questions about if further actions or strategies are needed to control the behaviour of kids on cruise ships.

The video was removed off Tiktok but has been reposted by the same user.

What are people saying?

As you might expect, the incident gathered plenty of attention on social media.

The general sentiment was that the kids are to blame for their own actions and they are putting themselves in an extremely stupid situation.

Jeffrey Boda wrote: “A fall from deck 5 or higher can be a fatal fall into water. That’s why on promenade decks they have emergency lowering devices as a last ditch means to lower to the water if needed.

“Cruise lines take this kind of reckless behaviour very seriously and the entire family were very likely and justifiably disembarked at the next port, fined and banned.”

Other cruisers are calling for lifetime bans,

“Ban the kids and parents! If that ship yawed or rolled, they would have been fish food. Some that go overboard, get sucked under the keel, and through the props. Good on you for reporting that person for being stupid.”

Plenty of other cruisers recall seeing similar behaviour.

Becky Rendellsaid: “Parents don’t care as long as they are not bothering them. Was on a cruise recently and balcony next to us had toddlers on it with no parents to be seen.”

Heidi Matthews said: “Once when we were on a cruise my husband heard a weird noise next balcony over looks over and it’s a five year old climbing the balcony mom was in the bathroom… he yelled at the kid and then knocked on the door and told the mom.”

Others are sick of young kids running amuck on ships.

Danielle Marie wrote: “The amount of young kids that are allowed to roam freely around the ship for the entire trip with thousands of strangers while acting like fools was SUPER surprising this past summer.”

What do you think? Are more actions needed to stop this type of behaviour aboard cruise ships?
