Disney Cruise Line has announced a huge global expansion in the cruise industry and will build four new ships set to launch between 2027 and 2031. The plan is part of a $60 billion investment into cruise.
These new ships will join the Disney Treasure, debuting this December, along with the Disney Adventure and Disney Destiny, which will set sail next year.
Additionally, Disney has formed a new partnership with the Oriental Land Company. Earlier this year announced a new ship dedicated to Japanese cruisers, which is inspired by Disney Wish.
Over the next seven years, Disney’s fleet will grow to 13 ships—five currently in service and eight more on the way. While the names, designs, and itineraries of these new vessels are still under development, Disney fans can anticipate new features and onboard rides.
This expansion was unveiled by Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney, during the D23 Expo, Walt Disney Co.’s annual fan event.
“We know that when guests board one of our ships, 40 to 50% of them say the only reason they’re cruising today is because Disney is here,” D’Amaro shared.
“We’ve essentially created this space, and our guests are having exceptional experiences. They rate us very highly and tend to return.”
Reaching New Audiences Across the Globe
D’Amaro also revealed that the additional ships will allow Disney to connect with even wider audiences, reaching destinations such as the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, the South Pacific, and Australia and New Zealand. The new Disney Adventure will be Disney’s first ship to sail in Southeast Asia.
“Our fleet will now be able to meet our fans where they are and bring our amazing stories to life,” he said.
In a major move, Disney has also struck a deal with the operator of Tokyo Disneyland and the Tokyo Disney Resort to launch a new year-round ship based in Japan.
This $2 billion investment, expected to begin operations in 2029, will mark the ninth cruise ship under a licensing agreement with the Oriental Land Company.
“We are thrilled to continue the success of this expansion as we collaborate with Oriental Land Co. to introduce another distinctly Disney vacation experience to families and fans in Japan.”
Year-round cruises from Singapore are also planned to begin in 2025, further expanding Disney’s global reach.
New Signature Productions Aboard Disney’s Ships
Disney isn’t just expanding its fleet—they’re also enhancing the onboard experience. D’Amaro revealed that the Disney Destiny, launching next year, will feature a brand-new signature production: “Disney Hercules,” showcasing the beloved music and characters from the classic Walt Disney Animation Studios film.
Meanwhile, the Disney Treasure, setting sail this year, will debut “Disney The Tale of Moana,” a new stage production featuring a giant puppet on stage that promises to captivate audiences.
Christmas Comes Early for Australia and New Zealand
Australia is getting an early Christmas gift—not from Santa, but from Disney. Due to popular demand, Disney Magic at Sea cruises are returning for a special season from October 2024 to February 2025.
These sailings will transport guests into an enchanting world of holiday-themed entertainment and imaginative dining experiences. Culinary delights will take guests on an adventure that combines gourmet specialties with legendary Disney storytelling, including favourites like Tiana’s Place from The Princess and the Frog and more.
