Overview

Launching in early 2011, Antoinette is one of the most sleek and luxurious river cruise ships operating in Europe, as well as Uniworld’s first new build. Her whimsical and lavish design, as well as her name, have a distinctive French accent, and with the opportunity to design a vessel from scratch, Uniworld has created a river cruiser with a wow factor.

Who Should Go?

Couples.

Things You Might Not Know

S.S Antoinette was decorated by the design team at Uniworld’s sister company Red Carnation Hotels group. Her interior is inspired by France’s Château de Versailles, and boasts a 10-foot Strauss Baccarat chandelier, originally from New York’s famed Tavern in the Green, hanging in the two story lobby. Guests have use of complimentary bicycles to go exploring ashore and also Nordic walking sticks.

Staterooms

There is one large owner’s suite at 36.3 square metres, eight spacious suites at 27.3 square metres, and 73 standard staterooms ranging between 15.1 and 18.2 square metres in size depending on which deck they are located. All staterooms feature English Savoir beds, built-in wardrobes, a flat screen TV with satellite, and bathrooms stocked with L’Occitane products.

The suites also include special butler and laundry services, in-room breakfast, a Nespresso machine and DVD. Category one staterooms and above feature full balconies that with a flick of a switch, raise glass to create an enclosed conservatory during cooler weather. One innovation in staterooms are the suites with alcoves which can be converted from glass-enclosed to open air at the touch of a switch.

All of the staterooms are inspired with a sense of retro French elegance with ornate wallpaper and original artworks and enough mirrors located strategically to enhance the natural light. Colour and design schemes are not uniform and each suite features a unique design and atmosphere.

Facilities and Entertainment

Of all the river cruisers on the waterways of Europe, Antoinette boasts some of the most comprehensive facilities, with an elaborate covered swimming pool with mosaic tiling, and an expansive sun deck with chess and shuffleboard. There are also two upper deck bars with great views, a massage room and separate fitness centre, a library, and an on-board boutique for the shopaholics.

Dining

The main restaurant is open seating and features classical European-inspired cuisine overseen by Master Chef Bernhard Zorn. Dinner is always an experience and there are also options to enjoy lunch on the sun deck and occasionally dinner under the stars. Uniworld prides itself on its cuisine and most days ingredients are sourced fresh from the local market.

The Low Down

If you fancy a slice of 1930’s Paris with all the mod-cons then this is the perfect ship. This is essentially a boutique hotel on the water and the whimsical retro design works beautifully against the backdrop of some of Europe’s most beautiful cities
