It’s an epic journey stretching from the city of the gods in Greece to the home of Nordic cool – a 46-night odyssey which includes four back-to-back cruises on all three of luxury line Azamara Club Cruises’ fleet of small ships.

This special journey, put together by Cruiseco, the cruise packaging experts, will see you travelling from the ancient city of Athens to the Scandinavian city of Copenhagen – with oh so much in between.

Sailing on the Azamara Journey, the Azamara Quest as well as the new Azamara Pursuit, you’ll visit stunning destinations around Italy like Giardini Naxos Taormina, the town, famous for its sandy beaches and ancient Greco-Roman theatre, Spain’s artistic and eclectic city of Bilbao as well as the Polish coastal city of Gdansk, known for its amber trade and Gothic buildings.

This is a real cultural rollercoaster, and with Azamara’s famous immersion programs and Azamazing experiences, you’ll see the best of each port call. Cruiseco’s travel curators are the leaders in creating journeys that take clients closer to local experiences, and this cruise certainly does that.

The holiday, priced from $26,955 per person, twin share is amazing value for money considering the package includes four cruises, flights from Australia to Athens, returning from Copenhagen, a two-night stay at the Grand Bretagne in Athens as well as two-nights at the Scandic Palace Hotel in Copenhagen.

What’s so special about cruising with Azamara is the size and intimate nature of the ships. The vessels are small, but they come with a variety of restaurants, public areas as well as amenities.

But the most charming part about sailing with Azamara is that the line ensures you spend as many overnights as possible in port so you get to experience the city like a local.

The first cruise aboard the Azamara Journey explores some of the picturesque destinations around the Mediterranean, particularly around Italy.

Giardini Naxos is a relaxing seaside town which was also home to the first Greek colony in Sicily. These days, you’ll find a mixture of visitors enjoying the lidos on the beach or exploring the ruins around the city. The ancient Greeks paid homage to the gods and a great Alter of Apollo was built.

It’s hard not to delve deep into ancient history to understand these destinations. But that’s an important part of understanding this amazing part of the world.

While many of the original buildings were destroyed during the capture of the city by Dionysis the tyrant as well as pirates, there have been major archaeological discoveries made in Giardini Naxos. Prior to the 1970s, the town was a sleepy fishing village but now, the beach promenade is lined with hotels, restaurants, bars and pizzerias.

The Azamara Quest‘s journey starts in Spain and travels to France, where guests get the chance to spend two days in the wine region of Bordeaux.

This area in the south of France is where the ocean meets the river, and is not only known for its fine food and viticulture, but also its architecture, museums and art galleries. The Place del Bourse is one of France’s most notable sites, and it’s striking fountain has a vast reflecting pool in front of the palace – breathtaking by night.

Bordeaux has an exciting gastronomy scene where you can try food at traditional French kitchens, degustation menus at avant-garde eateries or just soak up the local atmosphere standing by the city’s food trucks.

Azamara’s ships are similar in design and layout, so stepping aboard each one is like coming home. Guests will find dining options onboard include specialty restaurants like Aqualina, which serves Italian fare, and Mosaic Café for evening snacks. There are a number of bars and lounges where you can enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail, or a coffee after a day of exploring or to soothe those aches and pains, the spa and wellness area offer massages and other treatments.

The suites and staterooms onboard are stylish, comfortable and are well appointed. Whether you’re choosing an interior stateroom or one with a balcony, some of the delightful features include turndown treats, fresh-cut flowers, 24-hour room service as well as a fruit basket upon embarkation.

It’s a wonderful way to see Europe in an intimate and immersive holiday.
