Your holiday starts when you arrive in Darwin where you will spend four nights discovering Kakadu National Park where you can see 20,000-year-old Aboriginal rock art. At Litchfield National Park, you will explore giant termite mounds, Tolmer Falls and spot local wildlife. You will also be able to hop on a cruise in Adelaide River to spot salt-water crocodiles.

Take some time to savour Darwin’s cosmopolitan culture with its Asian-inspired cuisine and colourful outdoor markets. Make sure you try a bowl of spicy laksa as Darwin is known as the laksa capital of Australia.

You will also be taken to Stokes Hill Wharf where you will board a Charles Darwin sunset cruise around the harbour where you will indulge in a delicious meal as you watch the spectacular sunset over the horizon.

The next day you will board the majestic Ghan Expedition. Take time to settle into your comfortable cabin and enjoy lunch in Queen Adelaide Restaurant as it makes its way to Katherine. On arrival, you have the choice of going on a cruise to Nitmiluk Gorge or experience a cattle station.

Wake up to the stunning Red Centre as you watch the sun rising over the endless outback. After breakfast, you will taken to the outback town of Alice Springs where you can go for a camel ride before settling down to a delicious dinner at the historic Telegraph Station.

The Ghan Expedition train will then make a morning stop at the outback outpost of Manguri where you will be taken to the weird and wonderful opal mining town of Coober Pedy where more than half of the locals live underground to escape the searing heat. After lunch you will be taken back to the train to continue your journey. Enjoy meeting other passengers before sitting down to a delectable dinner accompanied with fine wines.

Adelaide – City of Churches

The deep ochre landscape from your  window will make way for the lush, rolling hillside of South Australia as you tuck into a leisurely brunch when the train meanders past the Flinders Range and arrive in Adelaide. Here you will disembark and spend the next three nights exploring the City of Churches.

Make a point to visit Adelaide’s 19th century Central Market, bustling with some of the region’s best locally produced cheese, olive oil and charcuterie.

You will be taken to the Barossa Valley to savour mouth-watering food and delicious wine including sampling wines at Jacob’s Creek, Saltram Wine and Lambert Estate. You will also be taken to explore Adelaide’s oldest German settlement at Hahndorf.

Exploring Barossa Valley

On your last day in Adelaide, take a stroll to the Art Gallery of South Australia and the South Australian Museum. After a culture inspired morning, head out to historic Glenelg to visit the famous Haigh’s chocolate factory.

The next day, you will fly home, filled with wonderful memories of an adventure-packed holiday.
