MSC Opera can accommodate 2679 guests. It has nine passenger decks. It was built in 2004 and was the flagship ship for MSC until 2006 when MSC Musica was built. She was refurbished in 2015 with many new enhancements such as a spray park, new child and teen area, new lounge and more.

Onboard, are 1,075 cabin, five of which are wheelchair accessible. There are five cabins types on board all of which come with double bed that can be converted to two single beds, TV, telephone, WiFi, minibar, personal safe, and bathroom. They range in sizes from 13 sqm to 27 sqm. Almost half of all cabins on board are interior rooms 13 sqm to 21 sqm in size. The Bella Fantastica and Wellness Experience packages are available on the MSC Opera.

There are six bars and lounges on board as well as three restaurants.

Onboard the 11th deck guest will find MSC Aurea Spa with two saunas, Turkish Bath, steam room, relaxation room with view of the sea. The Le Piscine area is located midship on deck 11, features two identical pools separated in the middle by two raised whirlpools (accommodating around 12 guests at a time). The pools range in depth from 1.95m (6’4”) to 1.90m (5’10”). Mini golf, table tennis, shuffleboard or deck games, and 200m long power walking track can also be found onboard MSC Opera.

MSC Opera is a Family Friendly ship. It has variety venue for children and teens onboard. Teens can visit the Virtual Arcade and play a variety of games and socialize with others their own age. Activities are organised by age. The kids can also use the Doremi Spray Park, Juniors Club Lego Play Area, Baby Club Chicco (for babies under 3 years) Internet Point and Mini Club Lego (3-6 years) are also available onboard MSC Opera.
