Launched in 1988 as Royal Viking Sun, MS Prinsendam joined  Holland America Line in 2002 and was refurbished in 2012. The 37,983 tonne ship has nine passenger decks and can accommodate 835 passengers and 443 crew. The latest amenities added to Prinsendam include Pinnacle Grill, an alternative dining steakhouse. This ship is designed for families with children and offers age-appropriate activities through Club HAL.

There are 419 staterooms on MS Prisendam. All have Sealy Premium Euro-Top mattresses, bathrobes, massage showerheads, salon-quality hair dryers, toiletries by Elemis Aromapure, fresh fruit on request, flat-screen television, DVD player, ice service, shoeshine service and nightly turndown service. Spa staterooms near the Greenhouse Spa have organic bathrobes, yoga mats and a water fountain. Stateroom sizes vary: Inside rooms (150–269 square feet), Ocean-view (156–205 square feet), Verandah rooms (221–273 square feet including verandah), Verandah Suite (365-862 square feet with private balcony).

The main dining room on board MS Prinsendam is La Fontaine, which offers five-course menus including low-carb and vegan dishes and continental cuisine. Breakfast is served at 7am to 10am, lunch is served from noon until 2.30pm and dinner is at 5.45pm and 8pm. Other restaurants on board are the Pinnacle Grill (seafood and ranch beef for dinner), Le Cirque (fine dining), Canaletto (Italian) and Lido Restaurant (buffet).

The Greenhouse Health Spa offers various treatments and activities for relaxation including body wraps, facials, acupuncture, massage, steam rooms and water therapies. Relaxation programs include yoga and Pilates. The fitness room has weight equipment and exercise machines. The Prinsendam Salon offers hairstyling, colouring and cutting, waxing, pedicures, manicures and facial treatments. There are two pools on board.

MS Prinsendam has a Club HAL program which offers activities for different age brackets: Kids (three-seven years), Tweens (eight-12 yearss) and Teens (13-17 years). Private babysitting can be arranged for an hourly rate. All children under the age of 12 are required to wear a special band which indicates their lifeboat station.
