Viking to expand its river cruise fleet with more ships in Europe, Egypt and Southeast Asia

Viking has revealed it will be expanding its fleet with new vessels bound for the rivers of Europe, Egypt, and Southeast Asia.

Due to an impressive demand for river cruise bookings across the globe, the line has six new ships in Europe’s waterways, two new ships joining the Nile River fleet, and one more ship for the Mekong River.

European Longships

In Europe, the expansion will be seen along the Rhine and Main Rivers with the new Viking Honir, Viking Eldir, Viking Annar joining these rivers.  The new Viking Dagur will join the fleet on the Danube. The Viking Gyda will expand the fleet on the Douro River while Viking Nerthus will sail the Seine River.

The line’s award-winning longships will be rolled out across the world, and each stateroom comes complete with full-size verandas and is considered the largest suites on Europe’s rivers. The ships also claim to have the most al fresco dining options.

Nile River Ships

Two new ships will join the Nile River fleet, including the Viking Amun and the Viking Thoth, which will sail the popular Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

Specifically built to navigate the Nile River, the Egypt ships have been designed to international standards. With French balconies, hotel-style beds in every stateroom and light-filled public areas, the new vessels are some of the most popular river ships sailing the region.

Mekong River Ship

Viking Tonle will double Viking’s fleet on the Mekong River in Southeast Asia, joining its identical sister ship the Viking Saigon. Designed to navigate the Mekong River, hosting just 80 guests, Viking’s Mekong ships offer understated elegance and have been built to reflect the clean, Scandinavian design principles for which Viking is known.

The timing of the launch of the new ships comes at the same time as a strategic campaign on river cruise bookings with the line offering up to 30% off select cruise itineraries purchased before June 30 2025.
