Viking River Cruises has unveiled a three-night extension in Switzerlandโ€™s Lucerne region for selected Rhine departures in 2020.

The โ€˜Alpine Backdrops of Lake Lucerneโ€™ extension can be added to the beginning or end of selected eight-day โ€˜Rhine Getawayโ€™ itineraries, which sail from Amsterdam to Basel vice versa.

Guests will be able to enjoy three nights in a First-Class hotel in Lucerne, four guided tours, four meals and all transfers, all the fully escorted by a Viking Host.

Guided excursions include a walking tour of the old town of Lucerne, a scenic nature cruise of Lucerneโ€™s famous lake, a trip up Mount Pilatus, one of the regionโ€™s spectacular peaks on a cogwheel train.

There will also be a visit to Einsiedeln Benedictine Abbey, where guests will step inside the Chapel of our Lady to see its Black Madonna pilgrimage shrine, plus a tasting at a Swiss chocolatier.

โ€œWith seamless connections and the services of a Viking Host throughout, our extension packages are designed to help guests maximise their time in Europe with additional days pre and post-cruise,โ€ said Michelle Black, Vikingโ€™s Managing Director ANZ.

โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to be expanding our range of extensions in Lucerne, a unique destination in Switzerland thatโ€™s best known for stunning natural landscapes as well as a vibrant culture and culinary scene.โ€

This extension is now open for bookings and prices start from $2,399 per person.
