River cruise line Travelmarvel has increased their presence on Europe’s waterways with the debut of their newest river ship, Travelmarvel Rigel, which has set sail from Amsterdam on 30 June on the line’s signature European Gems voyage to Budapest.

The new vessel becomes the fourth in Travelmarvel’s purpose-built European fleet, joining Polaris, Capella and Vega on itineraries along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. Designed specifically for the cruise line, Rigel carries up to 178 guests in 89 cabins and is operated by a crew of 44.

Travelmarvel is the smaller sister company of APT Travel Group. APT CEO David Cox said the arrival of Rigel marked another milestone in the company’s long-term investment in European river cruising. Travelmarvel positions itself in the premium value segment of the river cruise market, offering contemporary ships and inclusions at a more accessible price point than many luxury operators.

“The addition of Rigel gives us a fleet of four purpose-built ships operating across Europe’s most popular waterways,” Cox said. “Every vessel has been designed with the same commitment to smart innovation, thoughtful guest experiences and exceptional value. Our focus remains on delivering seamless holidays that leave guests confident they’ve made the right choice.”

Guests onboard can enjoy an expansive Sun Deck complete with a jacuzzi, a fitness centre, and a choice of three dining and social venues. Fine dining is offered in Constellations Restaurant, while the True North Lounge serves more relaxed meals and drinks throughout the day. Traditional Irish-style hospitality is available at McGeary’s Bar. Accommodation ranges from French Balcony Suites featuring electronic slide-down windows to spacious Owner’s Suites.

The inaugural cruise will include a special sail-away celebration, with passengers and crew gathering on the Sun Deck for the ceremonial ringing of the ship’s bell as the voyage gets underway.
