Avalon Waterways will introduce shorter itineraries on its European journeys next year to attract more travellers looking to sample short holidays.

Avalon will now offer four, five and six-day river itineraries on the Rhine, Main and Danube Rivers to introduce more time-starved travellers wanting to dip their toes in river cruises for the first time.

Avalon is the second line to introduce shorter river journeys following Crystal River Cruises’ decision to shorten their voyages to four to six day sailings on Crystal Mahler and Crystal Mozart in Europe.

“The shorter river itineraries have been introduced due to increased customer demand for shorter holidays,’’ Avalon said.

Passengers can now experience a four-day Taste of the Danube cruise for $1598 per person visiting Budapest, Bratislava, Melk, Durnstein and Vienna.

There is a five-day Taste of the Rhine cruise to explore must-see sites along the Rhine River and Rhine Gorge which will include a culinary walk in Amsterdam, a tour of Cologne, wine-tasting in Boppard and visiting Rudesheim. Prices start from $2814 pp.

Avalon will also launch a new six-day Heart of Germany cruise on the Main River and the Main-Danube Canal from $3003 pp. The itinerary will include a guided hike of a Bavarian village, spending time at Wurzburg, wine tasting in Itzingen, onboard beer-tasting near Volkach and visiting Bamberg and Nuremberg.

Passengers who want to extend their holidays with a land tour, can now choose three new Your Way options including an Avalon land extension, a Monograms independent holiday or a Globus escorted tour.

“With our new Your Way program, we’re making it easier for travellers to extend their river cruise holiday with land itineraries that are perfectly suited to their preferences and budget,” said Gai Tyrell, managing director Australasia, Globus family of brands.
