The new, luxury Australian Star paddlesteamer on the Murray River will launch in late November – but she is already 90 per cent sold out for 2026.

Craig Burgess, director of Australian Paddlesteamers also revealed that APT Travel Group has signed up 45 per cent of Australian Star departures in 2027.

โ€œAustralian Star is still under construction in Mildura and will move to Echuca in mid-September where she will be fitted with a refurbished vintage wood-fired steam/diesel electric engine. Her first sailing is scheduled for late November,โ€ Mr Burgess told Cruise Passenger.

Her first sailing is already sold out, but there is some availability on the three-night sailing in January 2026 and seven-night itineraries in June 2026.

โ€œSales have been going exceptionally well โ€“ particularly now that APT has signed up 45 per cent of our total departures on Australian Star for 2027,โ€ he added.

Australian Star will have 19 river-view staterooms with ensuites, airconditioning and a private deck. She will also have a bar, a lounge and viewing deck plus a fine dining restaurant. There will be lift to all accommodation and an expansive outdoor relaxation area.

โ€œMany Australians love to river cruise and have experienced many river cruises in Europe. They are now looking for something similar closer to home without having to take the long flights to Europe.

โ€œOur paddlesteamers on the Murray River are filling the gap in the market. It’s about slow and authentic travel. Our strategic objective is to cruise as much as possible of the Murray River,โ€ he said.

The company is also building its third paddlesteamer, Australian Sky scheduled to be completed in 2027.

There is a 20 per cent offer for bookings on the Australian Star for 2027 sailings which expires on 31 July.

Prices start from $895 per person per night.

The companyโ€™s original paddlesteamer, PS Emmylou has been given a new lease of life.

APT under its Travelmarvel brand, has sealed an exclusive deal to charter the 16-passenger, PS Emmylou until the end of 2027. Under the Travelmarvel brand, PS Emmylou will offer a weekly four-night cruise on the Murray River starting 12 August.
