- With fewer crowds, guests can enjoy exploring iconic European cities like a local.
- They can also opt for overnight stays in key cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Strasbourg and Budapest.
- The City Escapes will be offered on sailings on the Seine, Rhine and Danube rivers.
AmaWaterways will launch its new City Escapes during the quieter, off-season offering guests fewer crowds, extended stays and deeper cultural immersion experiences in Europe.
Designed for guests looking for a deeper cultural immersion and slower pace of travel, City Escapes will provide more overnight stays in iconic European cities, more daylight sailing and 24 hours in key cities including Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Strasbourg and Budapest.
With few crowds and more time to explore, guests will be able to experience each destination like a local rather than a visitor.
The City Escapes will be offered on sailings on the Seine, Rhine and the Danube rivers.
On the Seine, guests will enjoy extended time in Paris, Rouen and Normandy with guided bike tours on the Left Bank, visits to the Louis Vuitton Foundation or the Marmottan Monet Museum. In Rouen, guests can go on a culinary tasting tour of chateaus while in Normandy, they can visit the historic D-Day landing beaches or explore Honfleur with a tasting of local cider.
On the Rhine, there will be a wider choice of cultural experiences at Breisach, Strasbourg, Heidelberg, Cologne and Amsterdam with local culinary tastings and architectural tours.
On the Danube, the line will offer extended excursions and cultural evenings in Vienna with dinner and a concert at the House of Strauss. There are also visits to the fairytale town of Cesky Krumlov and a tour of the traditional pretzel bakeries in Passau.
“Travellers are telling us they want more time to enjoy the places they visit. That could mean an extended visit to one of Paris’ incredible museums or time to wander through La Petite France in Strasbourg before dinner at a traditional Alsatian winstub,” said Steve Richards, Managing Director of AmaWaterways Australia and New Zealand.
He added that February was a record sales month with strong demand for the Danube, Rhine, Seine, Douro and Mekong rivers.

Meanwhile, AmaWaterways’ newest river ship, AmaSofia has been christened on the Rhine with a spectacular 300-drone light show over the river.
AmaSofia can accommodate 154 guests in 76 staterooms with suites ranging up to 32 sq m each. She will spend the season sailing the Rhine before repositioning to the Danube in June.
