  • She will join sister ships AmaDouro and AmaVida, offering itineraries in Portugal and Spain’s Douro River Valley.
  • The new ship has a capacity of 102 passengers and offers a fitness centre, sun deck pool, and a restaurant inspired by regional cuisine.

AmaWaterways is celebrating the launch of its third Douro river ship, AmaSintra. The brand new vessel will join her sister ships AmaDouro and AmaVida, exploring the Portugese and Spanish region known for its world-famous wine, scenic beauty and deep locks.

The river cruise line held a special ceremony last Thursday in Porto, northern Portugal, to celebrate the launch of AmaSintra. The ship was christened by its godmother, the president of Vacation Planners Jenn Lee. AmaWaterways’ co-founder and CEO Rudi Schreiner was also at the event, alongside co-founder and chief brand ambassador of AmaWaterways, Kristin Karst.

Karst stated she was “thrilled” that AmaWaterways are expanding its fleet in the Douro region. She said,

“Portugal continues to grow in popularity as a river cruising destination, and AmaSintra will offer an unforgettable experience to all who sail aboard. With departures running through late December, travelers looking to discover this remarkable part of the world will easily find a home on board AmaSintra.”

AmaSintra features 51 staterooms, most of which boast a private balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows, giving guests the perfect space to take in the stunning views of the region. She also had a sun deck pool, a fitness centre and a restaurant that focuses on regional cuisines.

The new ship will embark on the cruise line’s Enticing Douro itinerary, which explores the region’s world-famous wines and vineyards, as well as the cities of Porto and Salamanca. Guests can extend this cruise with a 3-night stay in Lisbon, which includes an escorted tour to the Belem Tower and a visit to a monastery.
