THE JOURNEY

Departing from Australia, Sea Princess’ first region she visits is the hot and sticky sights of Southeast Asia before sailing the Indian Ocean. Sri Lanka’s capital city, Colombo is a feast for the senses. It’s a busy metropolis which combines the hustle and bustle of a big city with ancient Buddhist temples and relics.

Heading to the Arabian Peninsula, she’ll call in Aqaba, the gateway to the Lost City of Petra. Built into the hills is this sandstone city that you can wander and explore the tombs of ancient rulers. It was only by chance that explorers stumbled upon this ancient wonder, which disappeared for around 500 years.

The Sea Princess then makes her way to Europe, where she will take guests to places in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and Greenland. The sunny and warm waters of the Med beckon for lazing on the pebbled beaches of Sorento or sipping cerveza with plates of tapas in the back-street restaurants of Barcelona.

Northern Europe, which has a rich history of kings, queens, dukes, duchesses and knights, will be the next region the Sea Princess visits. One of the shore excursions available on this World Cruise is a search for the famous sea creature, Nessie in Scotland’s Loch Ness. Guests will also be taken to Cawdor Castle, made famous in Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

How to pick a cabin

It’s important to pick a cabin that you will feel comfortable in, especially since you are spending so many days away from home. While a lot is dependent on your budget, it is best to splurge as much as you can on the best room you can afford. Otherwise, getting a cabin with ample storage space is important as you will be away for several months – you need that closet space.

If you can afford a suite, it is worth the cost. Otherwise it’s worth investing in a balcony cabin with unobstructed views so you can enjoy a book, watch the sea go by or see the different cities as you pull into port. But most importantly, it will make your cabin feel as if it has more space.

In terms of the stateroom position on the ship, a lower cabin in the middle of the ship on the mid to lower decks is the best way to avoid getting sea sick if the sea turns rough. While the front and the back of the ship bear the brunt of the waves, the back does have spectacular views and sometimes the balconies are bigger.

What to pack

Because you are away for months on end, you have to make sure you pack accordingly to the weather of each destination you are visiting. You need to match the itinerary against the weather charts for the time of the year.
