Villa Vie Odyssey launches a new month-to-month rental option

Villa Vie Odyssey, the residential cruise ship at sea has launched a month-to-month rental with the option to buy and live permanently onboard.

The company, Villa Vie Residences will charge US$2999 ($4544.61) per person per month for an inside stateroom with US$500 put aside for the purchase of a permanent accommodation on land. Those wanting an oceanview stateroom will have to pay US$3499 pp per month.

Villa View Residences operates one ship, the 650-passenger Villa Vie Odyssey which sails on a continuous around-the-world voyages where sea-loving passengers can buy or lease a stateroom under a range of purchase and rental options.

Under the new rental option, US$500 of the rent goes towards the purchase of a permanent villa on land. This allows cruisers and semi-retired people the freedom to split their time between a cruise ship and a land-based home.

โ€œYou asked, we listened. Month-to-month living at sea is here,โ€ said Kathy Villaba, CEO of Villa View Residences. โ€œFlexible rentals with a built-in rent-to-own pathway โ€“ so we can meet you where you are in life. Itโ€™s your time, your terms, your next chapter at sea,โ€ she added.

Full ownership of an inside cabin starts at US$129,999 pp and US$329,000 for a stateroom with balcony.

Residents living onboard Villa Vie Odyssey enjoy all meals, beverages, entertainment, housekeeping, medical services and high-speed internet as part of their purchase or rental cost.

The ship is currently sailing on its first world voyage visiting 140 countries which started in October last year after several months of delay while the cruise ship was undergoing renovations. Each world cruise lasts 3.5 years.

Villa Vie Odyssey is a 32-year-old ship which formerly sailed under multiple brands including Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, Commodore Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Cunard.

Crescent Seas is another new player in the residential cruise market. Crescent Seas acquired Seven Seas Navigator from Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Insignia from Oceania Cruises which will be refitted and converted into residences at sea. It recently announced its third ship, The Ocean which is a new build joining its fleet in 2032.
