Royal Caribbean’s megaliner, Serenade of the Seas will call Australia home in Sydney from October next year.
Serenade of the Seas which boasts actress Whoopi Goldberg as her godmother, will sail from Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal for the first time from October 2020 to April 2021.
The line will also homeport Radiance of the Seas in Brisbane after an absence of three years. Currently based in Sydney, Radiance of the Seas will call Brisbane’s new International Cruise Terminal at Luggage Point her home from November 2020 to April 2021. Radiance will undergo a multi-million makeover before arriving in Brisbane to give Queenslanders a taste of their own cruise ship from their doorstep.
Voyager of the Seas will also return to Sydney in October 2020 and the 4900-passenger Ovation of the Seas will return Down Under for her fifth season.
“Our company ethos has always been to bring Australians our world-class style of cruise holidays – direct to their doorstep,” said Susan Bonner, Royal Caribbean International managing director, Australia and New Zealand.
“We’re thrilled to be bringing a brand new ship to Sydney and returning to Queensland with our newer and larger megaliner, both packed to the rafters with features for families and couples alike,” she added.
This will mean that Australians will have a choice of four Royal Caribbean megaliners and two homeports from October next year.
The four ships will offer more than 80 sailings from 2 to 19 nights itineraries to destinations in the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia.
Great news. Do Royal Caribbean sail out of New York. We have a cruise booked for next year, we sail from Sydney in Feb. looking for something for later in the year. Maureen
I live in Sydney and have visited Perth a number of times by car, plane and ship and I agree with Christine it is a fantastic place and comparing Sydney to Perth, Perth feels like a large country town with friendly people and lots of tourist places to see.
The last time I came by ship we missed the port of Geraldton in Western Australia due to rough weather so the next time we were in WA we drove up to Geraldton to see what we had missed and we had missed a fair bit of not only the town and scenery but the people who live in Geraldton and when we spoke to different shop owners in the town and we told them how we were on a cruise ship and had missed pulling into the Port of Geraldton the people state they get very disappointed when ships don’t call in as these ships do help the towns economy. As for us we had a rental car on hold and fully booked at the town only to have to cancel it at the last moment because of the decision of the Captain not to pull in because of weather and I must say the rental car company in town were very helpful and friendly and cancelled the car without any hassles.
So the next time we came to Perth we hire a car from that same company and drove up to Geraldton which was a great trip and I highly recommend it and go visit the town. Fantastic place.
Perth is a great at Christmas time and you don’t have the crowds, we even attended the Perth City Christmas Carols and we got a no fee parking place very close to the event unlike in Sydney where there is totally no parking. I have sailed nearly all the way around Australia except for the bottom half from Adelaide to Perth which I still have on my bucket list. Yes I agree with Christine more Cruise ships should visit Perth but also Broome and Geraldton to help these communities survive and grow.
What New ships that you are saying the Serenade of the Seas is as old as The Rediance of the seas and it has been cruising the Mediterranean we have on it our self so it is not a mega ship they have had there life and nobody wants them so they are coming down to our shore HURA HURA more to come .
It’s fantastic that all these new ships are coming to Australia. Please don’t forget to visit PERTH, awesome state. Lots of sunshine here!
