Residential ship, Crescent Seas will give a full deposit refund to buyers

    • The move comes as Crescent Seas abandons its long-term charter of two NCLH ships to focus on its new build.
    • The newbuild, Ocean will only be delivered in late 2031.
    • The change of plans was based on buyers’ feedback who want more space and say in the design of their homes at sea.

Residential ship, Crescent Seas will give a full deposit refund to buyers as the company abandons the charter of two Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings ships to focus on its new build.

Originally, Crescent Seas had plans to charter Seven Seas Navigator from Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Insignia from Oceania Cruises – part of the NCLH’s portfolio – and convert them into residential ships.

Navigator was scheduled to be refurbished and delivered by late next year. Plans have now been abandoned with the company confirming it will concentrate on its new build, named Ocean which will only be delivered in the last quarter of 2031 – six years away.

“Those who have put money down will get full refunds and priority access to the new build’s residences,” said a company spokesperson.

The company decided to change its plans following buyers’ feedback.

“The pivot reflects both market validation and a deepened understanding of what high-net-worth (HNW) buyers want: more space, flexibility and participation in the design of their homes.

“This evolution allows us to deliver exactly what today’s most discerning owners seek: expansive, fully personalised homes at sea with unmatched flexibility, multi-generational layouts and the highest standards of craftsmanship,” the spokesman added.

Ocean will have 300 residences onboard.

The company had previously said that it had plans to launch five ships over the next five years. It is unclear whether this plan has also been abandoned.

Crescent Seas has been targeting high-net-worth individuals with a spare $1 million to $12 million to enjoy a home at sea with everything taken care of, brand ambassador for Australia and New Zealand, Jason Gelineau previously told Cruise Passenger.

He said that each ship will offer private butler service, world-class dining, wellness and spa facilities and connectivity via Starlink. Residents will also be able to play pickleball on board, have sufficient storage space for wine, e-bikes, dive equipment and dedicated co-working spaces designed for those who will continue to work remotely. For golf enthusiasts, a state-of-the-art golf simulator will also be onboard.
