Princess Cruises announces the building of two of its biggest ships

Princess Cruises has announced it would be building two new cruise ships, which will be environmentally friendly.

The ships will be delivered in 2023 and 2025 and will be primarily by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), the marine industry’s most environmentally friendly advanced fuel technology and the world’s cleanest burning fossil fuel, which will significantly reduce air emissions and marine gasoil (MGO).

The new ships, which will be the largest by capacity in the Princess Cruises fleet, will be built at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

“This revolutionary platform for next-generation, LNG-powered cruise ships will introduce innovative design and leisure experiences driven by the future vacation and lifestyle trends of our guests – further evolving the already best-in-class Princess Cruises experience we deliver today,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “We look forward to collaborating with Fincantieri to bring our vision for this next- generation premium cruise ship into service,” added Swartz.

The two ships will be 175,000 gross tons and will accommodate approximately 4,300 guests (lower berths). Specification details for the ship design, along with anticipated features and amenities of this all-new platform design for Princess Cruises, will be shared in the future.

In addition to today’s news, Princess Cruises has three new Royal-class ships on order with Fincantieri, including its next new ship, Sky Princess, which is currently under construction and scheduled for delivery in October 2019. The two other Royal-class ships are planned for delivery in 2020 and 2022.

The agreement for Princess Cruises’ next-generation cruise ships represent Carnival Corporation’s 10th and 11th contracted LNG-based vessels and are part of the company’s ongoing fleet enhancement strategy.

  1. Absolutely agree with previous comments, we love the Sun and Dawn. Golden far too big. It takes forever to get anywhere. Unfortunately that is how it is now. We are re thinking our cruises now.

  2. I must agree with the fist response – I like the smaller cruise ships better as well, after being on the Regal that is just to big. My favorite ships are the Diamond and Emerald for size.

  3. Loving Princess Cruises We have been on most of your ships enjoyed the smaller ones best they are not as crowded. We are booked on the Magestic in March so looking forward to cruising to Hong Kong. Look forward to seeing the new ships.

  4. I agree with Brian McVicar completely , have done 3 cruises on the Dawn Princess and loved everything about the ship. Did 1 cruise on the Voyager of the Seas, but never again – far too big.
People of 50 plus dont want the impersonal vacations on these huge liners. Dawn Princess was like being with friends,
Many of the Staff remembered us and we rememberd them, just great.

  5. After many cruises, we find the new ships are to big, Dawn, Sea and Sun best range of passenger numbers, No bigger than the diamond is best for user friendly cruising. We will give an opinion after the cruise in Nov, 2018 on the Majestic. booking for entertainment and other bookings on the large ships, is for the birds. A lot of other frequent cruisers our age are of the same opinion. What is the corporate opinion that bigger is better. Would like to know. I bet it all boils down to dollars? In any case still plan other cruises with Princess and other companies. Regards Brian McVicar.

  6. A Great looking vessels with staff services is truly amazing and unspeakable. I have taken several cruises none that didn’t meet my expectations and approval. Ok thoroughly enjoyed. Keep up the good work. Ram Deo Prasad platinum member.
