Woman dies in snorkelling accident and man lost overboard on Carnival Splendor cruise from Sydney

A man has gone overboard on Carnival Splendor, while the ship was sailing off the coast of Brisbane on Friday night. He was reported missing around 2am and authorities have suspended a search for the man.

Carnival said the information they have so far is that the man “apparently climbed over the safety railing and jumped overboard.

“The male guest was travelling with family, who alerted the ship’s crew of a possible missing person, and a review of the CCTV footage confirmed the guest’s action.

“All appropriate authorities have been alerted and Carnival will assist authorities in their investigation upon the ship’s return to Sydney on Sunday.

“Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one.”

Earlier, the cruise was hit with another tragedy when a Tasmanian woman died in a snorkelling accident on Moreton Island.

Desperate attempts were made to revive her on the beach, she could not be saved.

According to reporters, the incident occurred around noon on Friday near the shipwrecks at Moreton Island, Queensland.

Some witnesses maintained that conditions were challenging near the wrecks.

Despite efforts to assist her, she could not be revived. Queensland Police were notified of the incident at approximately 12:45 pm. A report will be prepared for the coroner to determine the exact cause of death.
