Italian ship-builder Fincantieri has floated out Explora I, set to lead the fleet for new cruise line Explora Journeys.

Owned by MSC Cruises, luxury brand Explora Journeys is set to take to the seas next May, when Explora I sails on an 11-night Mediterranean itinerary from Barcelona to Athens. If you’re onboard you can expect 461 oceanfront suites, residences and penthouse on board, 10 lounges, a casino, retail outlet, four pools, 10 eateries, spacious outdoor decks and wellness amenities.

It is the first of four ships ordered, with Explora II set to arrive in 2024. All of these four ships are set to be leaders in environmental cruising, with catalytic reduction technology to lower nitrogen oxide emissions by 90%, shore power plug-in connectivity and underwater noise management systems.

Explora III and IV will also potentially run on liquefied natural gas.

Chair of MSC’s cruise division Pierfrancesco Vago said: “The brand’s commitment to sustainable ocean travel extends beyond just the environmental and maritime technologies, but is also embedded in our onboard guest experience.

“Destination experiences will be designed to leave a positive impression and footprint on the places and people visited by placing a spotlight on local talents, craftsmanship, culture, gastronomy, traditions. This is all part of the brand’s commitment to its guests and the destinations we visit with them.”
