Holland America says its on track to complete major upgrades to its exclusive Holland America Denali Lodge in Alaska in time for the 2027 Alaskan cruise season. The line has invested US$70 million (AU$100 million) into the upgrades to add more guests capacity and more immersive exploration.

Throughout the 2027 season Holland America will offer 19 ‘Cruisetour’ options, from May to September. These can be as quick as a one-week getaway or range all the way up to 17-nights.

The itineraries combine a cruise of three to seven-nights with overland travel. This extra travel whisks passengers over to Denali National Park, where they’ll enjoy one to three nights at the Holland America lodge, depending on the length of their tour. The tours also include a visit to the Yukon territory in Canada.

Why add overland travel to your Alaska tour

Alaska is one of the few destinations where nearly every single cruise line offers tours that combine land travel with the cruise. This is because Alaska from sea and Alaska from land are simply two different experiences entirely, and each is worth seeing.

From sea guests can get up and close with glaciers, spot marine life and enjoy unrivalled scenery. Travelling on land guests can enjoy railway rides through beautiful forests, search for other fauna, enjoy walking trails in the wilderness and more.

Most travellers seem to agree that to get the absolute complete Alaska experience, you have to see it both from sea and from land, which is why lines like Holland America continue to invest in their land offerings to try and ensure guests get the full experience of The Last Frontier.
