Copenhagen-based, small-ship company, Albatros Expeditions will launch a fully Halal-certified cruise and serve Halal meals for intrepid, Muslim guests travelling to the Antarctic Peninsula in 2026.
For the first time, the family-owned expedition line will offer a Halal-certified cruise to the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula with Halal meals, alcohol-free environment and ladies-only saunas for Muslim travellers keen to explore the Last Continent.
Why a Halal cruise and Halal menu
“This is the first time that an expedition vessel will operate a fully Halal-certified kitchen in Antarctica – a milestone in the history of expedition cruising,” the company said in a statement.
“Non-muslim guests should take note that non-Halal food and beverages, such as pork and alcoholic products, will not be served on this voyage. As this is a halal voyage, we remind guests that bringing outside food or beverages onboard is not permitted,” Albatros Expeditions added.
Albatros Expeditions is led by owner Soren Rasmussen, a biologist and expedition leader who founded the company in 1986. Today the company has two expedition vessels, Ocean Victory and Ocean Albatros and operates globally, covering destinations from Greenland to Africa and the polar regions.
The 10-day Halal cruise
The 10-day Halal cruise will depart Ushuaia in Argentina on 3 January 2026 and cross the Drake Passage to call at South Shetland Islands, followed by the Antarctic Peninisula. The itinerary will venture into the iconic Gerlache Strait, where towering ice cliffs and majestic peaks adorn the landscape. There will be Zodiac landings to explore penguin rookeries, jaw-dropping Antarctic scenery and historical sites, while enjoying scenic Zodiac cruises amidst icebergs, whales and seals. 
Ocean Victory can accommodate 175 guests offering an intimate and unparalleled experience filled with Zodiac safaris, jaw-dropping scenery and unforgettable wildlife encounters.
The vessels Ocean Albatros and Ocean Victory are 104 meters long and 18 meters wide, featuring 93 large cabins, of which 68 are with private observation decks and 9 with French balconies.
Prices start from US$12,195 ($18,359) per person for the Halal cruise.
