- A viral video shows a Royal Caribbean passenger tumbling off a pool railing on Icon of the Seas.
- The passenger wasn’t injured due to an extra safety railing that stopped her falling off the deck completely.
- Cruisers have commented that they believe this type of behaviour should warrant a ban from sailing with Royal Caribbean.
A video has gone viral of an Icon of the Seas passenger taking a spectacular tumble over a pool railing. Luckily, the woman did not sustain serious injuries after a second safety railing broke her fall. But the incident and its accompanying video can surely serve as a reminder for other passengers to keep their wits about them while at sea.ย
The incident happened at Hideaway Pool, an infinity pool on deck 15 of Icon of the Seas. The video shows a passenger dangerously balancing themselves up on the railing, before taking a fierce tumble over the edge.ย
In the video, viewers will be able to see the extra glass barrier, as well as a small walkway on the other side of the pool barrier. Fortunately, the guest fell between the two glass railings.ย
The passenger was reportedly reaching for a pair of sunglasses they had dropped between the walkway, and tipped over while trying to balance themselves up on the edge of the pool.
Royal Caribbean Group told Cruise Hive: โA guest accidentally fell onto the pool gutter after reaching over to retrieve their sunglasses. Our crew immediately attended to the guest and fortunately the guest did not experience any injuries.โ
To be clear, on this same sailing, a crew member jumped overboard. This incident is not related to the woman in the video and incident in question.
What are people saying about the incident on Icon of the Seas?
Cruisers on Reddit mostly seemed to share the sentiment that they hope this incident doesnโt result in more barriers or decreased accessibility to the pool areas.
One commentor wrote: โThis is why we canโt have nice things. Next thing you know, there will be barriers so that people canโt get within 10 feet of the edge. Sigh.โ
Another wrote: โMost of these incidents we see are a result of poor judgement and a lack of control alcohol wise.
โI hope they donโt overreact and make the barrier higher or something stupid.โ
One cruiser even felt that the cruiser in the video should be banned.
โThis person should be banned. Not only do they participate in unsafe activities, it can be traumatizing to those who witness their stupidity like this.โ
Many cruisers speculated that the cruisers behaviour was due to alcohol, with comments like โSome people become dumber when the drinks package kicks inโ and โPeople drink on cruise ships like theyโve never had access to alcohol before in their livesโ.
However, up until now, there has been no confirmation that the passenger was inebriated.
